Made me think of this. I know nothing about this "Richmond" collection, only that in the haste to make these COA's someone spelled their website name wrong.

Must have missed this yesterday with all the buzz about the census launch, but apparently CBCS is introducing a slab only option that includes signature verification, but no grade or resto check for only $20 (books valued less than 4k). I can understand a market for people who just want their books slabbed(for display or whatever).

The link to the podcast Steve B. did last night. Runs over one & a half hours. Probably an interesting listen to those somewhat new to the hobby and 3rd party grading, but not too much new ground covered.

These books being submitted through a 3rd party(his lcs) is noteworthy. I hope the insurance check compensated him fairly, although the Kirby sig is irreplaceable.

I had read some of that before. Maybe I am misunderstanding, is CBCS not paying out? If they were verified and encapsulated and then lost there is definitely a record. Since the chain of possession ends within the hands of CBCS they are the ones that are on the hook on compensating the guy for his loss.

Since the chain of possession ends within the hands of CBCS they are the ones that are on the hook on compensating the guy for his loss. According to the OP(Jeff S.), he’s already received an “insurance check” to cover the loss. The actual submitter was Jeff’s lcs and the compensation was apparently determined by what the lcs claimed the value was when sending in the books. Jeff’s not getting any response from CBCS because the transaction was between the lcs and CBCS. There’s some details missing that we would need the lcs to supply I believe.

Did you see this? That looks TERRIBLE. And am I understanding correctly that CBCS will only fix this problem if the customer pays for the round trip shipping and insurance? IMO it should be fixed for free (including all transit/insurance costs), or the customer should get a 100% refund...customer's choice. Same goes for CGC newton ring books. Encouraging people to fix their books by buying special polishes and rubbing out the defects is insane. I can't believe they are recommending that.

Yeah, I was hoping there’d be some outrage over the issue, but aside from one new-ish(or quiet) member who raised the point about return shipping costs, there was nothing. How that slab got out of CBCS’s building looking like that is beyond me. I was the first to respond in that thread and honestly couldn’t tell what was going on as to me the case looked like it had actual dirt on it. Like the slab was at the playground and landed face down under the swing sets.

Did the old labels really look this bad? Particularly the grade font...*shudder* It looks like The Thing used it for toilet paper. I always figured he needs some sort of bidet-like contraption or high pressure hose to get that area cleaned up.
