Will CBCS offer signature service?
We will offer a CBCS authorized signature service.
Will CBCS offer pre-screens?
We will be offering a service called "Grade Screening," where you pick a minimum grade on every book in your submission. If we determine that the comic to be at least your minimum grade specified, the book will be certified and placed into a CBCS holder. If it does not meet the minimum grade you picked, we will not grade it or put it into our holder. We will send your un-graded book back to you with the rest of your submission, and you will just be charged a very minimal rejection fee. There is no minimum number of comics to be eligible for this service and you can select a different grade for every book in the submission. There will be no impact on the Turn Around times and "Grade Screening" is covered under the CBCS Turn Around Guarantee. This will allow you to certify those borderline books you've been holding on to without taking the risk of parting with money you would not have previously spent.
Will you grade Treasuries?
As this point, we will only be grading "regular" comic sized books-- No magazines or treasuries.
Additional CBCS Information:
Website: The web design is a completely custom design. We started with wire frames and have developed a unique and original product. As we go through beta testing, we find and fix small issues. We are told that with any completely custom, not out of the box web design, small issues will pop up now and then. Once we launch, we do expect that people will find small problems here and there. We’d like to know what these are so we can fix them and continue improve our web design for our customers.
Building: We rented 8600 ft2 building in St. Petersburg, Florida. We hired an architect firm to redesign our space. We reinforced the walls and ceiling with cement block and rebar and installed a huge vault. A 2,400 pound bank vault safe door secures the entrance to the vault. We have a very thorough security system to keep everything protected and the authorities alerted . We have a receiving room, grading room, offices, the vault, customer service area.
Label: Upon the advice of our colleagues and future customers, we are perfecting the label prior to launch. We will always encourage client feedback and will take whatever steps we can to make as many people happy as possible. Our goal is to create a label that provides as much information as possible without detracting from the comic itself. Design, placement, and color decisions have been made only after a great deal of thought and conversation.
Authenticated signatures: We will have a presence at conventions and we will have witnesses to authenticate signatures. We are currently producing a schedule and we will post it as soon as it is completed. We plan to attend a minimum of 40 conventions throughout the year.
Interesting Case Info:
Outer Shell: The outer shell has been designed completely from scratch. We hired an engineer and did a 3D mockup. After approval, we had a 1 ton polished stainless steel mold produced. With that, we produced samples. From the sample, we then started to fine-tune the mold. Every change takes 6 weeks to implement. Welders make changes in the mold, then polish and “harden” it. We made one more minor adjustment last week and are ready to finalize and start producing the final product.
Inner Sleeve: The inner sleeve is made of polyester plastic called PETG, which is similar to Mylar. We designed the corners of the plastic interior sleeve to make it conducive to holding a comic. We measured multiple comics for length, width, and depth. So far, we have created 9 different sizes; we plan to have 25 different sizes to accommodate a variety of comic sizes.
Ideas: We will continue to welcome and carefully consider ideas and suggestions from our customers. We will strive to implement any possible changes that make sense to us, that improve our customer service, and that align with the highest standards of a reputable grading company.
