Heh. I posted an "innocent" question and got a 7-day vacation from a place I don't go to anyway.

I asked Jesse directly "Can we get the CBCS definitions of the words 'civil' and 'respectful'?"

Worth it.

Here's the message I sent Dice:

How long are you going to tolerate the unprofessionalism of your moderation team, Steve...? How long...?

This is "disrespectful"?

No, this is criticism, legitimate criticism, and your breathtakingly unprofessional moderation team used it as justification to issue yet another "suspension."

You don't need me to be telling you this.

You know this is getting out of hand.

And yet...here we are.

To which he replied:

To which I replied:

"That's total bull , Steve, and you know it. I didn't "call out" anyone about anything. Read what I wrote. All I did was say "there may be a discrepancy about what is, and what is not, considered respectful"...which is perfectly true, obviously.



So, saying "there are differences of opinion about what is respectful" is now "disrespectful", and "calling out"?



Bull . And you know it. The line was drawn, and I didn't come within 1,000 yards of it. And for someone to "cross the line", they first must be aware that such a line exists in the first place.



You're better than this.



Your COMPANY is better than this.



You are allowing your message board to become a tool for the ignorant and the easily offended. They and your moderators are making CBCS look like amateur hour. It is BAD OPTICS, Steve, and you're allowing it.



I WANT you to succeed. The industry NEEDS you to succeed. I BELIEVE in what you are doing.



But you will NOT succeed if you allow your moderators and your boards to be overrun by the oversensitive, ignorant, and petty. You would do well to start taking this far more seriously than you are."

So. There we have it.

This is the nonsensical comment from Dice that really riles me up:

So, noting that "be respectful" could be open to interpretation is now "disrespectful"?

Idiotic, irrational nonsense.

That line was "be respectful."

I didn't come within 1,000 yards of that line.

The line was NOT "don't question this proclamation"...because that would have been too blatantly ludicrous. Yet, that was what they meant.

These are the actions of tinpot dictators in third world nations.

Shameful.

I'm just bustin' yur balls because you guys seem to get all tangled up in the axles of these commercial forums.    

They exist to sell their products, not to promote any sort of serious discussions about the hobby.  What they allow on their websites will always reflect that.  The question then becomes one of use.  I mean, why go there if you know from the outset that they will never allow any sort of criticism or analysis that could lead to a decrease in their profitability?  Couple that with the fact that the forum regulars will consist of nothing more than cheerleaders and those who have financial interests...and the prospects a real discussion becomes rather bleak.

I'm not trying to tell you what to do, I'm just positing my opinion that you will never change the way they operate - it's a waste of time.  And yes, it's your time to waste if you like that sort of thing.  

Where?  It's really amazing, but there has been an explosion of comic book forums over the last couple of years.  They come in all different specializations and sizes.  Some are so large they boggle the mind...others are tiny.  I belong to at least 40-50 right now, and will probably add more.  Most exist on the social media platforms.

Can you imagine Jessie0's reaction to your post? He must have been tittering with excitement.
