I met Stan at a few retailer (I was a partner and own a comic book store) fuctions, Comic Con's and through friends in the industry. One particular time I brought a few comics to sign, he was always graciously obliging!
Back in 1994, I wanted him to sign a few Fantastic Four #371, an ALL white cover (there was also a ALL red 2nd print variant), embossed with the Torch blazing on front. I also wanted him to sign was the new cool gold color markers that were the NEW rage in autographed comics.
I had already gotten the artist Paul Ryan to sign it. So, we sit down, I hand the books and gold pen to Stan and he noticed Paul Ryan's gold signature...now this metalic pens were tricky, if yiu press to hard on the tip...well you can see what happens next with the photo provided.... lol

I have a copy of Faust #1 that I had Tim Vigil sign way back in the 90s. Same thing happened to him, he pressed down on the nib and it unleashed a glob of gold ink onto the cover which he didn't see until he run his hand over the glob, smearing it.

I've been following him on facebook. He had some pretty awesome sketch covers for sale but they usually go pretty quick. He had one piece that was really nice but unfortunately it was way more than what I wanted to spend ($4K), not that his work isn't worth is but that was a lot.
