The cockpit

So the cockpit is airtight? Did the pilot land in the water? He doesn't look any worse for wear, and I'd have thought he'd bail from the plane before going into the drink. Yes. Yes. He looks a little concerned that WW may break the glass in her struggle with the shark. I don't think he's the smart sort of pilot. He's definitely not smart. * Spoiler *Many of the DC SA stories don't stick in my memory, so I'm able to read them every couple years to recall detail and still enjoy them. So I read the story. It begins with reporters asking Col. Trevor why he hasn't married Wonder Woman. WW explains she can't marry him until there are no more people in need of her help. Trevor responds that he always needs her help. He then proceeds to engage in an aircraft race(because that's what the military does, race planes). While his plane heads towards a giant pylon a freak lightning bolt strikes the pylon setting it ablaze. WW sees Trevor is unwilling to veer off course lest he slow his time down so she uproots the pylon, spinning it until the flame dies, replants the thing and Trevor passes by unharmed. Trevor later remarks he needs WW's help at least three times each day to which WW disagrees. Trevor then bets WW that if he needs her help three times in the next 24 hours that she has to marry him. WW agrees to the bet in front of reporters. The General then comes to Trevor and orders him to immediate desk duty, seemingly squashing Trevor's hopes to marry WW. The following day Col. Trevor and Diana have lunch on the roof of the "Military Intelligence Building" and following lunch Trevor proceeds to take a nap when unexpectedly a "rocket cone" falls from the sky... The robbers fire on Trevor, but a quick thinking WW tosses her tiara in front of Trevor, intercepting the rounds before they strike him and wait... the tiara continues on and knocks the firearms out of each of the three robbers hands and they are then subdued. It's now 5:00 pm and there's only one hour left to go in the bet when the General call on Trevor ordering him to fly him to a ship sitting in the East River. On Trevor's return to base his plane malfunctions and the cockpit hatch fails to open meaning he'll crash into the water without jumping to safety. A shark immediately starts hammering away at the cockpit glass and WW swoops in, tosses the shark away with nary a thought, smashes the glass and hauls Col. Trevor to the surface. As they come out of the water a clock tower nearby chimes and Col. Trevor pipes in stating those are "wedding bells". WW tells Trevor to look at the clock(which now reads 6:15). WW wins the bet after all. DC Silver Age hero comics.

For a guy who calls himself The Black Hood, he sure has lots of blue on his hood. More blue than black. Although, I suppose the Black Hood sounds cooler than the Blue Hood www.mycomicshop.com/search?TID=199051

Most American men are circumcised, so no worries about that.

This is interesting. There appear to be three variants for Batman 307. I always knew there was a Whitman variant but not the light blue number box shown below. Could the lighter blue box versions be copies that were intended for Whitman but for some reason never got the Whitman box on them?? Here's the "lighter blue box" version (image posted by Bats from the number game thread) The Whitman Version. Note the location of the white Whitman box and compare that to the copy above And then finally the regular(??) version

I hadn't noticed that... Good spot! That was just some random image of Batman #307 I found on the 'net.

Mycomicshop lists 307 as being one of the Mark Jewelers variant. However, this doesn't explain why that box is a lighter blue and why it's exactly the same size as the Whitman box. There are also other issues before and after 307 that are both Whitman variants and MJ variants but there is no box anomaly as seen on the 307.

MCS shows the MJ variant as the blue box version, but GCD show the normal copy as the blue box version. I see that both versions (with and without blue box) are represented well in the population. So it's confusing. I wonder if this is one of those color variants where halfway through the print run the publisher went "Oh !" and replaced the plate or something. Maybe one of our resident variant experts knows? kwticknor@organicsquishee

This was mentioned on the CGC boards a year or so back, but the pic of the "blue box" comic is gone. I looked at one of kwticknor's threads regarding the DC/Whitman variants, but any info didn't go back as far as #307(Jan '79 cover date). As there were Marvel "Diamond price box" issues that were sold in Whitman 3-packs and at some point to comic shops during this same general time period, could the "blue box" have also been meant not just for Whitman distribution as Jeffro suggests, but also for Direct or subscription sales?

I didn't think the Mark Jeweler insert affected the cover at all? I thought you couldn't tell an MJ variant just from a picture.
