I just fished that Batman 307 Whitman out of a less-than-a-dollar box a week or so ago. I always pick up the Whitman versions of the DC superhero comics, some of them are pretty pricey and others not so much. I never find them in anything approaching high grade however.

I've found a few in high grade but most of them that I see are mid grade at best. Still blows my mind that Whitman logo DCs are now in demand. They were considered reprint garbage books for so many years.

This is interesting. There appear to be three variants for Batman 307. I always knew there was a Whitman variant but not the light blue number box shown below. Could the lighter blue box versions be copies that were intended for Whitman but for some reason never got the Whitman box on them?? Here's the "lighter blue box" version (image posted by Bats from the number game thread) The Whitman Version. Note the location of the white Whitman box and compare that to the copy above And then finally the regular(??) version I suspect this was just a case of operator or mechanical error at the printer. Either someone forgot to finish the whitman plate before the plate was made (this seems likely to me, but I wish I had a better handle on the mechanics of the printing process), or...well, I don't know what else it could be. My understanding is that there were separate plates for the "swap", and since each plate was burned individually, the process wasn't quite finished for the regular plate, and had to be remade. Just a guess, though, as, again, my knowledge of the precise mechanics of printing in that era is a bit limited.

No self-respecting comic collector would buy those back in my day , reprint or not

I think he lost his super powers. I can't verify that though.

Nothing says "Guns Against Gangsters" like a an underwater scene of a woman fighting off a shark with a knife.
