I'm willing to bet I've got a lot of 9.8 labels for 9.4 books

So, why didn't all those books I knew would come back as 9.8s get 9.9s or even a 10.0? Seriously though, my first sub to CGC was nerve-wracking. I held onto books for MONTHS, looking them over & re-looking, making sure I had not missed anything. Ended up holding two books back because I was nervous. I sent in 5 books, 4 I knew would get 9.8, one was borderline 9.8/9.6, so my guess was they'd hit it with the 9.6. I nailed every grade. Now I am thinking that 9.6 really was at least a CGC 9.8. *EDIT* - just looked back over the pics I still have of those books. No way that 9.6 is probably even a 9.6. It was a Batman 608 New York Post special edition that I had my sister send me from NYC. By the pic, I am surprised it hit 9.6, but IDK. Might be time for a new thread... (don't want to clutter this one up with too many OT posts).

A lot of my books I subbed for the first time was the same procedure as yours. A lot of them were also throw it in there and wish for the best I was disappointed at the number of 9.6's I got back, but not shocked. There were only a few books that came back lower, and not shocked. There were 2 particular books that were damaged during the signing though. Kinda hoping I can press them and reholder later.

THIS copy: ...looks clean, but I suspect it's got the flaw in at least one place on the spine, but because it doesn't break color...that is, the "tear" didn't reveal the white underneath...that's why it got the 9.8. Plus, it was newsstand, which is a different press run. I may have said that in that thread. I haven't seen it in person, but I can guarantee you, I'd find that flaw on that book. Again...I'd LOVE to be proven wrong, but I suspect CGC did the same thing with this that they did with Harby #1...decided to overlook the production flaw. Can't tell if it's the slab, but I think I see something about an inch above the bar code on the spine in the black portion of the flame. fwiw

Is there something just above the price in the yellow box? (In line with the tm by Wolvies foot)

I see it. It's on the spine almost right where the black turns to red above the UPC

Yes, I see the line in the logo box. If it doesn't break color, it could be "9.8 allowable", but if it's a tear, it shouldn't be.

So these tears can show up anywhere on the spine?

So these tears can show up anywhere on the spine? Yes. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate.
