I've had the canned stuff fried with potatoes and onions, but straight from the can... Does "in pies" simply imply it's in a bread crust? This is the best picture I could find. Corned beef with potatoes and onions was a meal I also used to have... I have a little place near me that makes British meat pies that look like this... They have all kinds of sauces to put on top too. Really good.

It's been a while since I've been in there. Ever had blood sausage? Or Ox tail soup? Mom used to make those.

Never had Ox tail, but was always curious. Mom made mince meat pies a lot too. I still make her treat that she just called "pie crust." You make up some pie crust, slice the circle of dough in one direction in one inch wide sections, top with cinnamon and sugar, and then bake. Those are the best. The sugar caramelizes on top.

Blood sausage or "black pudding" as we call it is something I wouldn't these days. Love oxtail soup... You can get some great steak pies over here but steak & kidney pie is not that popular anymore.

Dunno what a Canadian meat pie is.... However, I love lebanese food... These are usualy filled different fillings like meat, potato, spinch and feta, or grape leaves. Then there are these open faced, thin crust meat pies called lahme bi ajeen. Take a hot one, roll it up, like a donair sandwich and enjoy. Lots of people add a very hot sauce to these. To me, corned beef is always a thinly sliced sandwich meat. I've never seen it like you guys have been posting it

Add a bit of hot sauce to one of these and you have the drunken delicacy that is the doner kebab...

Add a bit of hot sauce to one of these and you have the drunken delicacy that is the doner kebab... Yup that is your classic donair sandwich right there.. I've got a top sirloin roast in the fridge right now. Can I get some suggestions for it? I usually cook these roasts seasoning the meat with seasoning salt, pepper, cumin, basil and oregeno, and inserting a few garlic cloves. Set the roast into a casserole dish, fat side up, then I'll set the oven to 450F and place the roast in for 15 mins, then turning the heat down to 370F or so without opening the door and cook for 2 1/2 hours. Roast always comes out medium rare and juicy. However, I am getting bored of this and I do own a slow cooker and never use it.

Yup that is your classic donair sandwich right there.. Ahh... that's what we call the doner kebab. It's usually only eaten if you're very drunk or very hungry. The quality of the meat used over here is not good. It's processed scrap meat infused with lard. The chicken kebab is a much healthier alternative! I did buy (what was probably) a donair sandwich from a Lebanese resto in London recently and it was delicious. I couldn't improve on that...
