As an aside, packaging these days is cheap as hell. My new bluray set comes in the flimsiest plastic piece of container you can imagine. I was actually shocked when I took it out of the box. I miss the old days when discs came in solid plastic clamshells or sturdy boxes. Yes, those days are gone. Packaging these days are cheap!

The manufacturing cost savings wouldn't seem to justify it.

Check out this one at 2:46. There's nothing wrong with the orientation of the original image and the effects and yet the new effects make the whole thing look completely different. To me, that's an example of "fixing" something that didn't need to be fixed. Yeah...I don't like that at all...leave it alone.

EDIT: However, I take it they've sorted out the Enterprise continuity error that ran for three seasons?! Where they used the same sequence of shots in every episode but they contained two different models of the ship!

Not adapted to widescreen Bats, although I am actually surprised it has not been since the original Wonder Woman series has been converted to widescreen even though it was shot in 4:3 full screen aspect ratio. That said, I have to admit WW looks damn amazing cleaned up and in widescreen!!
I'm surprised. They were showing it in digitally remastered widescreen on the Horror Channel!

Both of these are based on the models used in TOS. They have different nacelles and other subtle differences.

Cool! It's about time they slungshot around the Sun and showed up. Was this above your home?

I have it all on digital HD and I love it, but...always wanted the original sfx like you. I think the newer sfx are amazing and look great...but, I still want to watch it all in original form...original effects...original skin tones, etc. I just have way too much nostalgia to be satisfied with the new sfx. The exterior Enterprise shots look cheesy to me. I will say that the shot of the planets through the bridge viewscreen look good but I want to see that generic Star Trek planet graphic when they are in orbit. Perfect example is at 1:39 or so. I want that old green planet Interesting. I had no idea they changed things so much, I dont think I've ever seen an episode with the new CGI. I vote for the old effects too!

I think what bothers me most is not so much that they decided to spiff up the planets and how the ship moves through space, the ship exterior, etc it's those scenes like the one I referenced above where they completely change the orientation of the ship in space. They basically changed the scene for no reason other than they could. That's not enhancement through newer effects, that's change for the sake of change. Doesn't add anything to the episode.
