Is it illegal to smoke outside in CA? It is in Los Gatos. They get so weird out here. I couldn't care less if someone is smoking outside. Inside, absolutely...but outside is fine.

I really have no idea, i was just wondering what "public space" meant.
So, what, you can only smoke inside of a house in that town?

That's a bit general Are there cops in little shorts riding bikes around giving people smoking tickets?

That's a bit general Are there cops in little shorts riding bikes around giving people smoking tickets? The thing is...no one smokes out here anymore. It's a social death sentence. They just raised the price of cigs something like $2.50 per pack a few days ago (a special tax). But dogs. Dogs have human rights now. In Los Gatos, most of the water fountains have special water fountains at the base for your dog. You can bring them in a lot of stores out here. Some shops put out dispensers with free dog treats. This is what I mean when I say there is no right or wrong, there are only choices that the tribe makes. The tribe decided that smoking was wrong and dogs are good. Doesn't matter what you think. Neighbor dog keeping you up all night with his barking...too bad.

There are high-end condos near me (I am talking $500K and up) where smoking is not allowed on the entire property. Including in your own condo. Nor your private balcony/deck. I am not a smoker, but that just seems... draconian to me.

I grew up in a household where one parent smoked 4+ packs a day (Lucky Strike). It's interesting to me to look at how smoking has changed over the years (socially, cost, laws, etc.).

There were always several cartons on top of the fridge. I probably reeked of cigarettes as a kid and didn't know it. I'm pretty sure all of us kids smelled the same. I like seeing old photos where there's an ashtray in every picture. We had a beanbag ashtray in our bathroom and special holders for lighters in the living and dining rooms.

How many fights did that start? If the answer is none then that's because you live in CA. You wouldn't do that in NYC Is it illegal to smoke outside in CA? I don't have a problem...at all...with getting hit by a smoker. I don't care where it is. If someone wants to hit me because they're mad I told them to consider someone besides themselves, hey...more power to them. I'm not going to hit them back...I have far too much to lose...but if it makes them feel all warm and cuddly to do so, they're free to do so. Doesn't change a thing. I am not without my ability to intimidate. No. Smoke lingers, as I'm sure you know, and hangs in the air for quite some time after someone exhales it. It's simple courtesy. I can't think of any other human activity besides really bad farting that imposes on others so directly, without their willing participation. Perhaps realllllly smelly dudes, but people mostly bathe. I don't walk by people and release a volley of noxious intestinal fumes...why should people have to smell their smoke? It's illegal to smoke in public places in many municipalities, but I don't care about its legality or lack thereof. I have a neighbor who smokes on her back porch. For some unknown reason, the current is just so that it wafts into my house. I can't even escape it in my own home. And there's nothing I can do about it. There are plenty of designated smoking places around here, including certain bars. If I were a smoker, I'd simply do it in those places, where I couldn't unintentionally inflict it on anyone. I'll never understand why it's perfectly socially acceptable to inflict things on others without their permission. By the way...I say the same thing to the men and women who pour 55 gallon drums of cologne on themselves.

sounds like my grandma's house in the late seventies, early eighties. I've kept most of the stand up ashtrays and fancy lighters, ect. Remember driving in the car and three to four adults would all be lit up as you laid in the space under the back windshield?
