"All parks, playgrounds, sports fields, recreation areas, open space, bike paths, and trails." "Open space"? That's a bit general Are there cops in little shorts riding bikes around giving people smoking tickets? The thing is...no one smokes out here anymore. It's a social death sentence. They just raised the price of cigs something like $2.50 per pack a few days ago (a special tax). But dogs. Dogs have human rights now. In Los Gatos, most of the water fountains have special water fountains at the base for your dog. You can bring them in a lot of stores out here. Some shops put out dispensers with free dog treats. This is what I mean when I say there is no right or wrong, there are only choices that the tribe makes. The tribe decided that smoking was wrong and dogs are good. Doesn't matter what you think. Neighbor dog keeping you up all night with his barking...too bad. That's not where I'm coming from, and there are barking dog ordinances in most places.

There are high-end condos near me (I am talking $500K and up) where smoking is not allowed on the entire property. Including in your own condo. Nor your private balcony/deck. I am not a smoker, but that just seems... draconian to me. yeah, but residents know that going in. No one is forcing them to buy there. As much as I hate smoking, I think some of the regs get out of hand. However, I do like the fact that second hand smoke is far less prevalent than it was in the past.

My mom smoked and I always hated it, with a passion. Smoking ended up killing her. Fortunately, my dad quit before I was born. My mom's family was kind of odd in that none of the older generation smoked. Grandparents, great aunts and uncles, none smoked. For a generation born in the early 20th century, that can't be normal for the era but I'm certainly not complaining.

All my grandparents smoked at one point but quit before I was born. My parents didn't smoke and my father was anti-smoking. I took it up in my teens and at the time, I didn't care... I was young and indestructible. 10 years later when I struggled to quit, I cared a lot. The only thing I can take from it is I can tell my daughter not to make the same mistake I did.

That's not where I'm coming from, and there are barking dog ordinances in most places. The dog-barking ordinances aren't enforced around here. See, that's where I'd be an and make a scene about it. I've done it here, and I've had it done to me here. One night, I spent it elsewhere. I didn't want to coop the dogs up in the house, so I left them outside. No problem, usually. But a stupid damn raccoon got in one of the trees, and the dogs ended up barking at it all damn night. I got a notice from the city. I was pissed, but it was my fault. I should have taken care of my dogs. So, I did. It wasn't my neighbor's fault...it was mine, for accepting the responsibility of having dogs, and then not being around to take care of a problem that affected my neighbors. This was 10 or so years ago. Since then, there's only been one neighbor who has an obnoxious yappy dog (whoever bred yappy dogs ought to be neutered) that yaps constantly when they're not home. It's that piercing, monotonous "yip! yip! yip!" that does...not...stop, and eventually gives you a headache. Burbank may be filled with leftists, but they do enforce the laws, mostly.

Personally, I'm in the "Hey...stuff happens." group. If it's an unusual occurrence I just chalk it up to life with neighbors this close and hope they would give me the same leeway if something happened with me. But when it's constant, and you can't get away from it, then it's a problem. That's a neighbor who is putting their interests above everyone else's and doesn't give a damn. A neighbor's barking dog is also a liability. If you try to sell the house, prospective buyers notice things like that. Less buyers means lower sales prices. On top of that, you are legally obligated to disclose a neighbor's barking dog. If it's disclosed, they may retract or not make an offer. If it's not disclosed, it's a legal reason for them to get out of a binding contract months later, and then sue you for expenses on top of that.

I'm lucky to have small dogs that rarely bark. The one does when he is excited and gets carried away playing, and that's it. They don't bark at strangers, or anything else.
They mostly grunt and groan 24/7 but that's easily ignored. It's kinda like owning a compact bristle back pig.

I had a cat that liked to grab onto my jeans while I was wearing them and try to climb up my leg. Well, one day she tried it when I was wearing shorts. Friggin' weirdo cat

The closest thing we have to a pet is the squirrel that keeps digging up our flowers
