I feel sorry for you guys on the East Coast. It's supposed to hit 80 here today. All my flowers are going crazy. Turns out it wasn't as bad as the weather talking heads were painting it a few days ago. A few days ago it looked like a class 5 kill storm. Got maybe 10-12 inches of snow and then it turned to sleet. I was able to borrow the neighbor's snow blower. Still sucks to have a snow storm this close to spring but it could have been a lot worse. Yeah, I saw it on the news. I'm glad it wasn't as bad as predicted. It hit 82 here today. Must be that anal worming thing everyone's talking about.

I hate getting worms myself I've never had worms. Must be all the gin that keeps them at bay.

One final shoveling last night at around 7pm. There was a half inch or more layer of slush that needed to be moved. If I had left it there my driveway would be a sheet of ice this morning.

So how do you guys who live in snow country deal with driving?
Do you opt for 4WD, snow tires, chains?

I hate driving in the snow and it's because of all the assholes who think that 4WD means they can drive as if it's only raining. My last car was a Jeep Liberty and it was great in the snow with regular tires and the 4WD on. Never had an issue. Every year I think about getting a set of snow tires and then reject it because I don't want to spend the money.

I've gone my entire life without buying snow tires. There have been times I really wish I had splurged on them, and after becoming a real mechanic, they are definitely smart to have, but meh I've recently (2013) got into Subaru for the all wheel drive and I won't go back for a winter car. Just fantastic. Before that, I'd buy front wheel drive beaters for a winter car (Had a Pontiac Wave for a few years. Front wheel drive and I could push it out of a ditch with one hand) Winter driving takes finesse and patience, which all these in their huge SUV's cannot begin to even grasp. I've had following me in their Honda Civics, only to smash on the curb and wreck their front ends. You really have to know your vehicle and what it can do, just driving like everyone else is how accidents happen. I live in stupid central, my insurance went up 4% from my hometown when I moved here. I see crashes daily and basically every car on the road has some sort of damage. It's ridiculous.

I used to know a guy from Alaska, who said everybody up there drives a Subaru wagon because they're AWD and run forever, you can take them anywhere.
