Centrifugal force is our friend. We have to build it first! Plus... HAL. They won't make it. Yeah, our space stations have been almost useless and a big waste of money...same with the old shuttle. 99% of our gains have come from robot exploration and Hubble. Thank god for the private sector.

This was being talked about on the radio this morning. I love the reaction of the people cheering in the background. I wonder if this will impact the kid's ability to get hired somewhere else especially if they run a background check on him and find out he did this at his last place of employment.

I've helped develop both magnetron (plasma) deposition systems and optical/E-Beam lithographic systems for semiconductor manufacturing, so I thought this was fascinating that advances in linewidth reduction leading to smaller and faster chips could eventually be developed because someone put a grape in a microwave.
