This place is far more civil than the CGC boards where so much stuff is banned and strikes given out at the drop of a hat. The more mike tightens his grip the more unruly it becomes. That's how it works.

That's how it works. I've seen it in classrooms of other teachers. They completely lose control when they seem to be whimsical and heavy handed in their conduct. I once watched an entire 8th grade class walk out in protest. Not a good look for the teacher.

I had that exact structure years ago and no one used it. They all just hung out in the General Comics area. But I'm not opposed to trying it again...or something like it if you guys want me to. This is great. If the majority of the boardies here feel the same way, then that's very valuable information. I personally AVOID the comic area because it's cluttered. But I would use the various forums more if they were separated. But that's just me and how my brain works. I'd love to hear the input of others. It may be sparse at first but I think eventually it would grow traffic. BTW, I have almost 7000 followers on my VintageComics Facebook page. Once we get this sorted out, I'll be sure to spread the word about this forum there. The problem is that a small forum needs to rely on concentration. This is also a human trait. Sometimes boardies are put off by empty or low traffic spaces. But we can give it a go. Let's get everyone's input before I make any changes though.

We had quite a bit of comics discussion, games, and hobby related chat just a few years back. There were only 6-8 regulars as I recall. It was a fun place and I looked forward to checking the site out everyday like I would a favorite podcast, tv show, etc. That was fun. It sure was fun back then, but isn't what's being proposed now similar to what killed the fun for the regulars from years past? I come back from time to time to see if there are any comic book topics, but the forum has turned into something not really comic book related.

What killed it for the regulars?

Frankly, just the few little things you did like changes to the shoutbox and moving a few things around all will clean things up. I do think expanding the comic book section into sub forums ala CGC's layout may help with traffic. Right now it's one jumbled mess with all comic related topics under one header. By having sub forums you will encourage people to participate in their forums of interest rather than forced them to wade through an ocean of threads to see if there MAY be one thread of interest. If you want this to be a comic forum, put a focus on structuring the comic forum in a way that will be easy to navigate and find topics of interest (about comics). Make it so people WILL WANT to post there. I would say this is the #1 priority if you want to make this forum focus on comics. The following are probably a good start. General Comic discussion (which we already have now) But then add: Golden Age Silver Age Bronze Age Original Art Events And have all of these fall under the Comics umbrella. -------------------- Can anyone think of any others? Hello! Not pushing aside your ideas, but something I want to mention (in comparing to the “old” days), is that such a structure wasn’t entirely needed. We met here like any regular group of folks would at your lcs on Sundays after closing(or wherever). The era wasn’t all that important. We came together as comic fans, albeit often different core interests, and marketplace topics were generally at the back burner. We appreciated and valued one another’s enthusiasm for the books, creators, and characters we loved. Kind of like a Venn diagram, and we all found a meeting point or common ground. Nothing wrong with a focus of sub-forums, but I’d think initial energy should go towards increased and consistent participation. Example: I don’t care much about Copper Age Wolverine or Doctor Strange, but if that’s your bag I’d enjoy reading about it, and why you love it.

I put a post up at CBCS about needing players for a comic book game. Games are a great way to bond and have fun. But, unfortunately, I can never find someone to take over running the game because it's hard work.
