So now you'd like the half dozen regular posters to discuss comics now? We had quite a bit of comics discussion, games, and hobby related chat just a few years back. There were only 6-8 regulars as I recall. It was a fun place and I looked forward to checking the site out everyday like I would a favorite podcast, tv show, etc.

I also temporarily turned off Guest Forum and Newbie Questions. We'll take a look at these when we get to the Shoutbox.

Another thing we can discuss (it's a small thing) is whether to show Recent Threads or Recent Posts on the Home button. I'm actually partial to the latter. I changed it to show posts. In case you forgot what it looked like. I dig how the images look.

That is best. Extend to the shout box also, or eliminate that den of evil completely. I never even look at it. It's completely pointless.

Hi guys! Long time no talk to. The last time I was logged in here was Dec 3, 2022 at 7:46pm. I've been extremely busy with other projects and the time just got away from me. Although I get regular updates from the Moderation Team, it's not the same as being here. It sounds like a lot has happened since I was here last. I have to admit (and this is the purpose of this thread), I would probably be here more often if there were more discussions about comic books, and...based on discussions I've had...a lot of other people feel the same way. Don't get me wrong, I think it's great when people passionately post about politics and things, but if it's at the expense of the purpose of this forum (to discuss comic books and the hobby), then something needs to change. The data shows that comic book post traffic suffers greatly when other non-comic book areas become the main focus (Politics, religion, the CGC forum, etc.) To get an idea of this effect, take a look at the money in each member's account...each dollar represents one post in the comic book board over the last 15 months. See what I mean? Except for a select few people, most boardies never post or venture into the comic book side of this forum. Anyway, that's the issue at hand. Right now, this forum isn't functioning as a place to discuss comic books, and that needs to change. Let's discuss how to fix this problem. To me, the most obvious solution is to move anything political, religious, or having to do with the CGC forum to a new forum, and keep this forum strictly for comics. What do you think? I think Kav nailed it. There is a lot of pressure and over the pandemic many topics were not allowed to be discussed ANYWHERE. Not on Facebook, not on the CGC forums. It was a crazy time and your site provided a much needed outlet to document history as it was happening. At the same time, I love great convo about anything and am 100% willing to help. In fact I messaged Ditch many weeks 3 months ago to try to help change this. He only just read my message yesterday. I'm all for more comic book discussion. Additionally, as I told him by PM, structure of a forum dictates flow of traffic and collectors are [mostly] and organized and OCD bunch and I really like the layering of the CGC forums and makes it conducive to organizing discussions and also growth.

Can you close the shoutbox until you make a final decision on it and thereby cut the BS and hijinx? OK. I turned off Guest Shouts and deleted everything in there. I love a good moderation team.

One thing I personally find difficult when reading is how the quote feature works and everyone quotes everyone in full when they don't need to. I tend to edit out sections that are unnecessary to the discussion (see examples above) to reduce clutter because what you end up having is a page full of redundant quotes taking up a lot of real estate. But I'm not sure anything can be done about that though.

Frankly, just the few little things you did like changes to the shoutbox and moving a few things around all will clean things up.
I do think expanding the comic book section into sub forums ala CGC's layout may help with traffic. Right now it's one jumbled mess with all comic related topics under one header.
By having sub forums you will encourage people to participate in their forums of interest rather than forced them to wade through an ocean of threads to see if there MAY be one thread of interest.
If you want this to be a comic forum, put a focus on structuring the comic forum in a way that will be easy to navigate and find topics of interest (about comics).
Make it so people WILL WANT to post there.
I would say this is the #1 priority if you want to make this forum focus on comics.
The following are probably a good start.
General Comic discussion (which we already have now)
But then add:
Golden Age Silver Age Bronze Age Original Art Events
And have all of these fall under the Comics umbrella.
--------------------
Can anyone think of any others?

I had that exact structure years ago and no one used it. They all just hung out in the General Comics area. But I'm not opposed to trying it again...or something like it if you guys want me to. This is great. If the majority of the boardies here feel the same way, then that's very valuable information.

But I would use the various forums more if they were separated. But that's just me and how my brain works. I'd love to hear the input of others. It may be sparse at first but I think eventually it would grow traffic. BTW, I have almost 7000 followers on my VintageComics Facebook page. Once we get this sorted out, I'll be sure to spread the word about this forum there.

This place is far more civil than the CGC boards where so much stuff is banned and strikes given out at the drop of a hat. The more mike tightens his grip the more unruly it becomes.
