The slab(frame, shell) looks nice, and the label looks nice enough, although there’s not much room for info. Not sure how much info would apply to a MTG or Pokémon card anyway. I’m guessing the reason for only doing the MTG & Pokémon at this point is to carve out their market niche, rather than try to be one stop grading for every possible type of card. I would suppose they could add experts in other types of trading cards going forward, not sure how that works. I’m disappointed the minimum entry fee to have cards graded is $400 as I think that whittles the pool down to essentially dealers. Haven’t really looked too much into grading tiers and such, but did see there’s a $5 fee per card if you want a “sub-grade”, meaning separate grades for corners, surface, centering, and edges. I would think those should already factor significantly into a cards grade. I’m sure there’s categories like color, brightness, resolution, etc., but this is above my pay grade, and the up charge did stand out at me. Since there’s a serial number present, I would expect to see the registry/census be available for those using the tag service. It’s kind of neat to watch this roll out.

I'm confused. Are you guys talking about Max value? Look under Sub-Grades.

Sorry, I meant this: "I’m disappointed the minimum entry fee to have cards graded is $400 as I think that whittles the pool down to essentially dealers". I'm not seeing this. Yeah, Steve is talking about the minimum order to get the lowest rate per card (50 cards X $8 each = $400) under "Bulk."

I saw this: "To pedigree a card to a previous owner, that collector or collection must be considered to be significant by CGC Trading Cards and sufficient documentation must be provided to confirm the requested pedigree. You can pedigree a card to yourself, typically without providing any documentation." What's that last sentence mean?

Are they saying that if you yourself are significant and famous/well known that you don't need to submit additional documentation?

I was also curious if there are pedigree collections for cards, specifically something as relatively new as Pokémon and Magic?

A rep(PaulS.) replied to a couple questions, but not mine. There’s a few other unanswered question regarding the cards, so I’ll just assume CGC doesn’t know.

The first CGC 10 Qualified card I’ve seen. It’s an artist’s proof with the artist’s (Steve Argyle) unwitnessed signature on the reverse. Not sure what the protocol is for cards insomuch as taking a grade hit in exchange for a Universal blue, or how this affects desirability on the secondary market.

You guys have to watch this video. Looks like CGC's crappy quality control extends to trading cards as well. The case just opened up on this guy right in the middle of his video.
