Just a quick question for you guys over the pond... When do "The Holidays" start? Thanksgiving or in December?

For example, this is the absolute worst time to try to sell real estate. But advertisers start earlier and earlier. I think anything after Halloween is game now. Do you do Panto?

Oh, we have pantomimes alright. There isn't a theatre in Britain that doesn't put on a panto over Christmas/New Year. It's always a children's story (e.g. Jack and the Beanstalk), with the same clichés (he's behind you!) and some bawdy humour thrown in for the adults.

Ditch got it right but sometimes people get started before Thanksgiving and put up decorations and some radio stations start playing Christmas songs. I love Christmas as much as anyone but anything Christmas before Thanksgiving is too early for me.

Thanks, guys. Over here "Christmas" sort of starts around December 1st (it's Advent, of course) but there's no real celebrations until 24th. Most of the boring sods over here are done by 26th, party it up again on 31st and go back to work on 2nd.
You can buy decorations as soon as Halloween is over!

I love Christmas as much as anyone but anything Christmas before Thanksgiving is too early for me. Someone I know who works for Wal-Mart says their store is already playing Christmas music, but it's only every third song at this point. I haven't seen any decorations go up in the neighborhood just yet, but the city has started putting up the wreathes and bells on the lamp posts.

This year Thanksgiving is early too, because October had 5 Wednesdays. This year is the earliest that Thanksgiving can occur.
