According to Mike's Amazing World, MGA #80 hit newsstands in April of 1963 and X-Men #1 hit in July of 1963.
Very doable.
Writer and co-creator Arnold Drake feels there may have been even more lead time: "...I’ve become more and more convinced that [Stan Lee] knowingly stole The X-Men from The Doom Patrol. Over the years I learned that an awful lot of writers and artists were working surreptitiously between [Marvel and DC]. Therefore from when I first brought the idea into [DC editor] Murray Boltinoff’s office, it would’ve been easy for someone to walk over and hear that working on a story about a bunch of reluctant superheroes who are led by a man in a wheelchair. So over the years I began to feel that Stan had more lead time than I realized. He may well have had four, five or even six months."

linkYou can't report YOURSELF and say "reports of..." Right! That's freaking hilarious. What a con man.

Hi. My name is Chuck. You may have noticed a post or two of mine over at the Collectors Society Forum. I probably hold the record for most contentious posts without a single strike... I have no idea why... I'm a sweetheart in real life, maybe it just shines though. That and as things began to escalate over there recently, my ignore list had grown big enough to protect me from some of the... useless word battles I could've gotten into it with. Oh, and jaydog will never catch my record mentioned above because he's an after the fact editor. Scaredy cat! My collecting interests are primarily Archie related, though overall, I'm starting to eliminate 90% of my possessions and devoting my life to traveling the world. Look for my Bangkok travel adventure picture show debuting on THIS forum very soon. I'm a huge movie fan (foreign and domestic), music fan, comic book fan - late Silver to early Bronze my favorite period - uh... what else... That's a start! I've met Chuck. More than once. He's older than me. That is all. Hey I was out in LA for a day a few weeks ago after being in Southeast Asia for two weeks. TRIED again to go to an In and Out Burger but the place was PACKED and I was ready for an American Burger immediately, so...went to McDonalds. Still haven't got to try it....

No response in the other forum, but worth a discussion...

I like it. Looks like more information but less crowded. It just... has an appealing look to me.
Nice professional video too.

The people that put that together also did the John Buscema book and the Wally Wood 'Woodwork' book - great stuff, but... that Ditko book looks like an even more amazing piece of work!

When I first opened my store in Indiana, I tried explaining variants to people there and most were completely baffled. "You mean... it's the same comic... but it just has a different cover?" Then they'd look at me as if I was trying to pull a fast one on them. The more I thought about it, the more I realized... Yeah. I guess they're actually right.
