I did get out to the junk shop this weekend and one garage sale. I thought the garage sale was going to be something because the listing said silver, bronze and copper age comics. And there were, but they were all Archie titles and nothing good. And the seller wanted $7 each for the cheap ones or $2 each for the digests , but was "willing to work with me" if I bought in bulk . The silver age comics consisted of three 12 cent Archie comics that were all graded 3.0-3.5 for $40 each. That's the price of slabbing for silver age books! No I will not bail you out on your dumb mistakes, thanks. What a dummy! So that was that, the junk shop came through again, naturally. Hadn't been there in three weeks and was able to pull out 50 dollar comics that I liked plus four Marvel Essentials, three of which were first prints. Not too shabby, thanks junk shop! It's been my best find of 2021 by far!

Zero comic hunting this weekend. Instead, I went and played a round of golf with my son, the first time we've played together in at least seven years! Lots of fun!

Hit up a few garage sales this morning that advertised comics and scored some okay deals at two out of three. Got a nice batch of Bronze Age books for a good price, mostly non superhero which are always fun because I'm so unfamiliar with them. The highlight was a run of Plop with Basil Wolverton freaky covers, issues 1-13. Plus a bunch of others for less than a buck each, definitely a bargain.

Sales on eBay hit a brick wall about 10 days ago, pretty much coinciding with Memorial Day holiday. If experience is any indicator, this slow phase will last through the summer until after Labor Day.
Now is the time of year when the garage sales/tag sales/yard sales/etc. really get popping in my area.
Hopefully I can score some deals!

Hit up three local garage sales this morning that advertised comics. The first one the guy couldn't find them, swore he had them, looked for them, came up empty. The second sale I got there too early and had to wait for them to set it up, but I was first asking for comics and the guy brought out a huge tub packed with them. They were Marvels from about 2000-2010, nothing remarkable really. I bought 46 issues for $15 so I was happy. The third sale I got there too late someone had bought whatever was there before me.

Went to a garage sale this morning, the guy kept putting people off, I'm not ready starts at 9 (I got there about 8:30). So, finally, he's ready and I ask where are the comics from the 1960s that were in the ad. "Here's one, I can't find the rest" It was a random Jimmy Olsen issue.

Also answered a Craigslist ad because the photos showed Infinity Gauntlet 1-6, some Amazing Spideys that didn't look too bad, and a lot of hot garbage otherwise. The guy had a high price on them but I figured let's take a look and then decide. So I get there and he's got a big bin on his back patio table, and about two comics into the first stack I picked up is a nice looking New Mutants 98! Nothing else even in the same ballpark value-wise.
I tried to dicker with him or to get him to agree to sell less than all of them as many, many of them were just terrible garbage, but he was adamant that it was all or nothing, his price or the highway. So, I had to take them all to get the good one. The true test will be if I can recoup the price paid with the 20% that seem like viable resale candidates. I don't think I'm going to make it, but it'll be close. That'll be like getting a nice NM 98 for the cost of a little elbow grease!
