Some limited comic book hunting this weekend - went to a "pop culture and collectibles" show at a Knights of Columbus a couple towns over this morning. There were about 10 vendors, most of them were selling Pop Funkos. Luckily I never got the itch for any sort of display items like these or statues or whatnot. The show was well attended - temperature checks and masks required, plus a limit to the number of attendees. I looked through the limited comic offerings and bought exactly one comic - a Magnus Robot Fighter/Rai 5 flip book for $10. And when I left a guy in line outside saw it and said "nice".

Yesterday I hit up the junk shop that was so kind earlier this year. I hadn't been there in three weeks and thought I might get lucky. Pickings were slim but I managed to scrape up $25 worth of dollar and other books.
Let's call the Mad Magazine issue 100 from 1966 for $2 the highlight!

Also went to a not so local comic shop to pick up my Bad Idea subscription copies. Eniac Not First Print #1, Eniac issue 2, and Tankers #1. My friend Dino owns the company and I support whatever he does, so if I have to sign up for an in person pull list at a shop a half hour away, so be it.

Only comic hunting this weekend was back to the junk shop for some more $1 comics. I found 74 of them, including about 40 DC newsstand issues from 2010-2012.

I left the Outsiders, however, not even as newsstands could I bring myself to buy them!

I left the Outsiders, however, not even as newsstands could I bring myself to buy them! I have a theory that garage sale season here on Long Island is going to be in abundance in 2023 given the tax laws that go into effect for 2022. Here is a possible scenario I see playing out: - People are selling the contents of their garage and the closets of their children that have moved out on eBay and Facebook marketplace.
- They are unaware of the new tax law and are surprised when they get hit with a 1099 in January of 2023.
- They decide to abandon eBay and Facebook Marketplace unless it is cash and carry for local business.
- We start to see the number of the old school driveway garage sales increase.

I like the sound of this! I love a good LI garage sale, scored many a great deal over the years!

I agree. The guys discussing it on the CGC boards are focused too much on the aspect of buying and selling comics. That $600 threshold is going to impact anyone cleaning out a garage or basement and it will take a year for the word to get around. Maybe come that time the Train Station show will get a few new tables with better items and people willing to actually sell. In the meantime this just sold for $9600 comics.ha.com/itm/bronze-age-1970-1979-/superhero/strange-tales-178-marvel-1975-cgc-nm-mt-98-white-pages/a/122117-17585.sEhhh this is either a great time to be in the hobby or a lot of things are ready to go pop.

Too much available cash everywhere right now, inflating all asset classes, not just comics. There will be a correction at some point after the Fed gets done printing money and inflation kicks in. There is going to be carnage and I don't mean Venom's spawn... With comics, the people coming in have no clue what it means to be a collector and they never will. The new money coming in has no clue as to the reasons why certain comics are collectible and others not. They are doing small time arbitrage and thinking they've got it all figured out. It's great for now, but once the correction comes people will lose interest. Plenty of people will be left holding the bag, and that's too bad for them. Meanwhile, "real" collectors (yeah, I went there) won't mind seeing the hobby shrink back down to manageable levels for everyday people. The collectors who are thinking yeah, this is the new normal? They're delusional.

Either of you guys live near New Hyde Park? That's the only place on LI I've ever been to. My grandparents lived there for many years NHP is on the Queens/Nassau border, I'm on the South shore about 20 minutes away (depending on traffic of course). I used to live closer to NHP and have been there many, many times. We used to go to a club on Jericho Turnpike near there back in the day, and there is (or was) a McDonald's built in an old mansion/historic building of some sort as well. NHP is an older neighborhood historically middle income type place which makes it a great place to find old comics at garage sales. I've scored some goodies there over the years for sure.
