Were they unable to get DC or Marvel to approve the use of their characters? If I hadn't had the volume up I would have thought it was a show about indy characters.

Well, if you're having a show about the "New Age", why would you include Marvel or DC? They haven't created any new stories or characters in the past 20+ years that aren't derivative, especially Marvel. Image is celebrating their 25th anniversary this year, maybe it's related to that. Glad I saw this reminder today!

How was it? Wondering if I should DVR the rerun If you've seen the previous History comic doc, it seems like more of the same with new interviews. This one seemed a little more in-depth, but it was the origins of Superman, the origins of Batman, origin of Capt America, etc. Since I personally don't like GA I found these parts boring, YMMV. The second hour was imo better with Frank Miller Batman, etc. when things became dark.

Thanks Stubby You may call me the Mighty Stub Mariner. One thing I think is a little different with this one is that they set the comics against the backdrop of actual history. This isn't so much the history of comics rather American history and how comics mythology is weaved throughout it.

www.monstersandcritics.com/smallscreen/superheroes-decoded-part-2-looks-at-american-rebels-like-iron-man-luke-cage-and-x-men/According to History, the docu’s first part explores the making of the iconic American superhero: “From the creation of Superman, Batman, Captain America, Wonder Woman, Spider-Man and beyond, these all-American legends have endured through decades of war, triumph and scandal, constantly evolving to reflect the country’s changing values in a tumultuous world. From World War II and Vietnam to Watergate and the tragedy of 9/11, these mythic heroes embody America’s deepest fears and greatest aspirations.” Part 2 examines “the American rebel and how sometimes being a hero means breaking the rules. From the beginning, superheroes like The X-Men, The Hulk, Black Panther, Iron Man, Luke Cage, and Wolverine have challenged authority and fought for outsiders, a battle that reflects the country’s most profound real-world divisions and struggles for justice. From their often controversial origins to recent resurgence in movies of today, these rebels redefine heroism for a new generation.”

I will probably DVR this one and see if pt.1 is on On Demand, and if not, watch it online. Iron Man was an "american rebel?" Well, he certainly wasn't an African aristocrat.
