You're on vacation and you get calls from your job about stupid questions. My employer still doesn't have my cell phone # on record, and never will It irritates me when I'm asked a few days in advance to give a crew some extra help on my day off, just to find upon arriving that one of the crew called in sick. One jackass did that to me twice. Shame on me. Oh that used to me off like nothing else. I would schedule someone extra to come in to work just so we can not only get caught up but get ahead and then have some knucklehead call out. The worst times are when there are multiple people who have the same idea.

I learned many years ago to check when someone's vacation was requested because twice I came walking in at 7am on a Saturday just to see the person I'm covering sitting there. He requested the days many months prior, but forgot. So if I see a request for Dec made in Jan, I verify. At another job decades ago, we would occasionally need to work a Saturday in order to catch up or get ahead, and it always pissed off this young "Princess Precious" type (I'm sure many of you know one), and she could always be counted on to call in sick the following Monday, forcing us to need to work OT for a few days that week. Damn pigeon toed .

Damn pigeon toed . I had one employee who knew we had important events coming up and would call out the week before. Luckily she wasn't a great worker so it didn't have a huge impact on us, it just meant pulling someone away from their project to help cover for the person who called out.

It irritates me when someone makes a joke at your expense, humiliating you.

It irritates me when you speak to somebody for the first time and they don't have the decency to talk to you in a polite, courteous manner. For example, you go to the post office to collect a parcel and the clerk talks to you in a tone that tries to imply superiority. "Card... ID... Payment..." Or you call someone in another department at work and they answer the phone in that snotty "why are you bothering me?" voice. You know the sort.
Problem is, this really gets my back up. I will, on occasion, bite my tongue if I really need the person's services, but I hate taking crap from anyone and usually end up talking back with double the tone. I may leave the conversation knowing I didn't let someone talk down to me but it's a poor second to having a nice, polite, civil conversation like we did in the olds days...

When I retire, I plan to supplement my pension with a part-time job at the local hardware/DIY store. Every time a person of 18-21 asks me where a certain item is, I'm going to shrug my shoulders and reply with "I dunno… it's not my department."

One of my dreams is to win the lottery and get hired on at random places just to see how fast I can get fired
