Huh. That #4 looks like it has a outdent on the right hand top. Maybe it's grease? Some sort of oil stain.
I still don't think it deserves a 9.8. I said 9.2 because of the age of the book, maybe there was something happening on the inside, but it definitely looks like it shouldn't be higher than a 9.6

Top right hand corner looks like a small stain and possibly another between the C and A of Captain Marvel. Halfway down the spine it looks like there may be one or two fine colour breaks. |
