So, this is a very weird phenomenon that I've seen over the years. It's quite bizarre.
Essentially, it goes like this:
A person, or persons, has a complaint about a product, a service, a company, a person, or what have you, in a professional sense.
They post that complaint on social media.
Without fail, someone, or someones, comes along and invariably says "I've done business with so and so for years, and NEVER had a problem!"
It boggles the mind.
Why do people do this? Does that somehow diminish the validity of those complaints? It serves no legitimate purpose in a thread about someone's complaints, and is almost universally totally irrelevant. How? Just because one person has "never had a problem with so and so" doesn't therefore mean that NO ONE has ever had a problem with so and so, or that their complaints aren't justified.
And it's not limited to small guys, either. I've seen people defend Wal-Mart in the same manner. It's just bizarre behavior.
Here's my theories:
1. The person or people saying this are shills for the complainee, and "protecting" their business interests.
2. Some people feel the need to defend anyone, anywhere, and feel that any negative discussion about anyone, no matter the merit of the complaint, is an "attack" on that person/entity, and must be defended.
3. The person saying this is a long time customer of said business, and wants to "suck up" to them, and remain in their good graces.
4. The person saying this has a vendetta against those supporting the complaint, and wants to diminish the perception of that "group."
5. The person saying this has a vested interest in "legitimizing" the market, whatever it may be, for whatever's being discussed, and needs to de-legitimize any negative perception of it.
This was the discussion that inspired it.

Any other ideas?
