Is a nice cover on a stupid book, which isn't all that rare, hyped up by who think they can manipulate the market, when the reality is they can only manipulate those stupider than they are. Which is unfortunate because as it stands right now, there are WAY too many stupid people out there.

Has the collecting community ever come up with a ballpark range for the print run?

Whew, I am sure glad someone did the leg work on that. So if I have a copy, I am a millionaire?

Marketing shmarketing, there's still a bottom line at some point. Hard to believe these variants push up preorders to such a large degree, but I just don't know how brick & mortar places manage this.

I'm all for collecting what you like, but shelling out $9,000.00 for a modern doesn't make sense to me. What's funny is some will try to apply logic for the amount of money a modern variant might command. To each his own.

I'm not into them at all, but if you're into plastic crack and believe in the 'greater fool theory,' then it's where the game is. Take a look at valiantman's data.

On a personal note, I'd have to agree with you; variants are kinda silly. On another personal note, I'd say a true variant would have alternative interiors, not an alternative cover. Then again, I have issues.

Then again, I have issues. I ask this out of complete ignorance, how often does this type of "variant" happen? Danger Club #8 had a variant with a slightly different color cover and a different ending, but it is the only one I am aware of.

When I first opened my store in Indiana, I tried explaining variants to people there and most were completely baffled. "You mean... it's the same comic... but it just has a different cover?" Then they'd look at me as if I was trying to pull a fast one on them. The more I thought about it, the more I realized... Yeah. I guess they're actually right.

I thought this concept was silly when it was/is applied to magazines like People, TV Guide (is that still around?), and the like. Now variants with different interiors I can appreciate. But all it would take is one hot comic (read $$$) of this kind, and the idea would be totally run into the ground before long.

It only gets sillier when people start valuing 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc prints higher than the 1st prints.

A comic with a different cover is one thing. A comic with the roman numeral II or III or IV on it, and that's the only difference is stupid.
