I like the new look. Not sure what the word "world" under the serial number is for though. It's their "clever" take on CGC's "universal"...which doesn't make any sense, because "universal" is a word that means "all-encompassing" or "widespread." "World" doesn't have that meaning.

PGX is an interesting study in business.
Most seasoned collectors wouldn't touch PGX with a 10 foot pole, and most would have predicted their demise (for good reason).
But the 'new' collector/flippers are very price sensitive and have no interest in history. They buy PGX and have given it a new lease on life.
PGX is now back to being a viable competitor. Go figure.

That makes sense but it's lame.

So many bags of all types out there waiting for a chance to cheat. CAK is currently dealing with someone who bought a low grade ASM #6 from him, then tried to claim there was a page missing. The images he provided to show this was tightly cropped, leaving out the edges. CAK's images in the listing shows tell tale markers on the edges, so CAK asked the guy to show the torn page at a wider angle, allowing the edges to be seen, and the guy refused. Uh huh.

It really sucks. I have so many personal stories about sellers and buyers trying to screw me. After a while you learn all the tricks to protect yourself. For example, on high value books it makes sense for a seller to photograph every page, have high res scans of the cover, and take pics of the packaging steps taken. As a buyer, sometimes I've photographed or videotaped myself opening the package. I've even opened high value packages in front of postal workers before. What a complete pain in the ass.

I plan to have an ASM #1 by the end of the year, and I am very likely to do this at the P.O. The only thing that bugs me about that is the fear of revealing to the P.O Staff what I get in packages. I'll have to find a way to look without letting them see it, unless that's what I wind up needing. I'm friendly with everyone there, but I don't know them. No eBay for that book (probably). I think I'll look at Heritage and the like. I don't really do auctions because getting the books I want at the absolute cheapest price isn't my #1 goal. I don't really have the patience for it either. When I decide on a book to scratch off my list, I look for it (usually at MCS for run fillers). However, I have been obtaining many of my recent books in auctions, but those were sniped- Nothing I'd been watching for days or weeks. The HOS92 I found was by pure luck. I decided to look for it, admittedly motivated by kaptainmyke's action win (which indirectly led to him and logan510 being suspended at CBCS for 1 week and 2 weeks, respectively) I found one that would probably grade at CGC or CBCS at 5.0 for two small pinhole on the cover, but they're way more noticeable from the inside, and it looks like a 7.0-8.0 (from the scans- Book is in transit). I have no problem paying a little over FMV for a book that presents nicely beyond it's actual grade., especially when a similar book without the pinholes would cost much more. Anyway, my point is I don't really want to use eBay for that book, unless of course a very reputable dealer has an auction. I've never used Heritage or the like, so I should start studying up on them.

And they can see the insurance value stamped right on the label, so the only thing you could keep secret is 'what' is inside the box. Not that I trust them. I lost a $700 shipment from a bad carrier a couple years ago. It was signature verification delivery only, and he used his fingerprint in the signature window to allow him to 'deliver' it. (I still have the pic). Since that incident, anything of value is 'pick up only.'

I have one PGX graded golden age book. Now I'm wondering if the book is complete. I mean, I knew the risk when I bought the book but it sucks that so many books are coming back with all of these defects.
