Trump should be arrested for inciting this and then doing nothing. Serious question: What did Trump do to incite the march on the Capitol? I looked at this tweets and among the last of his tweets before the account was blocked were these: I am asking for everyone at the U.S. Capitol to remain peaceful. No violence! Remember, WE are the Party of Law and Order - respect the Law and our great men and women in Blue. Thank you! Also Please support our Captiol Police and Law Enforcement. They are truly on the side of hour Country. Stay Peaceful. So tell me again how he incited the crowd enough to get banned from Twitter? We live in a world where the truth doesn't matter anymore.
You re quite the hypocrite Roy. First off the quote above was made about an hour into the riot. Trump was asked many times to say something before that tweet and he refused. Even when he spoke to them he reminded them that he had won the election by a landslide. Is that your "truth"? And that's just one example. All you have to do is review the timeline and you'll see clear as day. If you can be objective, that is

Something should happen. A lot can still go awry in two weeks. Did Twitter unblock him yet? He's permanently banned from Facebook and Twitter.
It's a sad day in the world when unaccountable private organizations are more powerful than the president of the United States and can censor anything they want if it doesn't conform to their own agenda.
It's a great day when Twitter trolls who abuse their power and embarrass the US on a daily basis get banned. Do you think it was cool of him to use Twitter to call other world leaders stupid little nicknames? Do you approve of him calling Kim "Little Rocket man?" If you don't like it, move to Canada. Oh, wait. Right, almost forgot.

The tweets were obviously taken down, but the gist was this. Early at the rally/protest at the Washington Mall Trump told supporters to “Never give Up!” and “We will never concede!”. Tweeted messages to supporters that they would have a huge voice going forward and will not be treated unfairly, calling them “American Patriots” and “We love you”. After a string of these type of messages he later said he won’t be at the inauguration, which seemed to imply that would be a safe target while he’s absent. There’s other stuff, but I’d have to go digging. Also, a part of it is what he didn’t say or do, which was to tamp down the crowds, condemn their actions, etc. when he had that opportunity. Something should happen. A lot can still go awry in two weeks. Did Twitter unblock him yet? He's permanently banned from Facebook and Twitter.

When I asked that he was actually only banned for 12 hours, but then came back. He was also using the “POTUS” account while he was banned, so Twitter had to suspend that as well. I think I disagree with your last statement. Twitter is in a sense accountable to the users(and advertisers) of the platform and how any user “uses” that platform, and to what end. He’s had multiple warnings and had tweets removed in the past, all of this completely public, so the suspension/banning didn’t come out of nowhere. I think it’s in the best interest of the people(the citizens) to censor or ban when terms of service or constitutional rights are violated or encroached upon, and a citizen or business in turn should not encroach upon another’s rights. I think that’s where we got “protected classes” from.

I asked because I didn't know the full context.
It's attitudes like yours that are the problem.

this changes the balances of power in the world where you now have organizations become more powerful than even the most powerful people in the world.
These companies can now swing elections. They can dictate the flow of information. They're not impartial. They are obviously biased.
This will have long lasting repercussions that will change the world...it's a short sighted solution that will eventually come back to bite all of us in the ass and when it does we won't be able to do anything about it.
I did read ALL of his last quotes (they're preserved on the Trump Archives) and I didn't see anything ban worthy.
Twitter's 'interpretation' is the reason for the ban, and if Twitter is the arbiter of truth we're doomed as a society. It's no different than in the middle ages where truth was dispensed from the pulpit and the pulpit alone.
Allowing speech to happen, even if people say horrible things is FAR better than not allowing some forms of speech. There's no question about this in my opinion.

You can't yell "Fire!" in a crowded theater, and that's basically what Trump did. You can't hide behind free speech when you cause a riot to start.

This is a very short sighted move by politicians and media companies because it helps them right now but they don't see the far reaching consequences of this.
People who come from countries where censorship is the norm DO understand how bad this is.
Eventually, what they are starting now will come back and bite them in the behind as well...so short sighted.

You weren't asking a question that you didn't already know the answer to and now you're backpedaling like the weasel you are. Completely disingenuous and hypocritical.

You weren't asking a question that you didn't already know the answer to and now you're backpedaling like the weasel you are. Completely disingenuous and hypocritical. Wait, so when I said "serious question" and I asked the question you assumed I knew the answer to the question?
Well, that's really mature and productive.
I didn't know the answer...that's why I asked the question. I didn't follow the news very closely or read much into what was happening. I read Trump's last few Tweets before he was locked down and none of them were incitement to me...that's why I asked.
And if course instead of holding a productive conversation you just resorted to name calling. Again.
Serves me right for expecting a reasonable conversation with you.

I’m not quite sure where the Twitter banning is actually “censorship”. What are these other countries who’ve experienced censorship saying(or understanding)? If you weren’t aware the Presidents potential banning has been brought up multiple times the past few years for violating the “terms of service”. He’s made some wild statements on that platform including threatening N. Korea with a nuclear strike. I don’t believe twitter wants(wanted) to ban him, but their line has been crossed too many times. What exactly is being “started”? I’m really curious your perspective and understanding of this as it compares to mine. This all seems very cut and dry to me, so maybe I’m lacking parts of the story or some important insights.

This all seems very cut and dry to me, so maybe I’m lacking parts of the story or some important insights. Social media platforms are public platforms with the ability to make arbitrary decisions on what the public needs to see or hear.
Having the power to censor what a world leader says makes them more powerful than the leader.
The parallel here is the middle ages, when the Church was the dispenser of truth and everyone had to trust and believe what they dispensed. The bible was chained to a pulpit and the common man wasn't allowed to touch it or look at it.
The terms of service are there to protect the companies and their own views just like political platforms and decisions can often not in the best interest of the people but in the best interest of the re-election of a politician.
What is being 'started' is an information war using a pattern of censorship by the big media companies that forces public information to align with their own political or philosophical views.
As guilty as Russia or China may be for attempting to swing elections in other countries using misinformation campaigns on social media. the companies are no different themselves to their own people if they are going to be the arbiters of what can and can't be dispensed.
Especially when it affects how they treat a figure like the President.
