So I am 8 days from getting on a red eye flight to Toronto, to connect to NY to get to Boston. I was really hoping to keep in touch with fellow CGC boardies about arranging meetings and seeing if I can get cool things like exclusive for people. Instead I have to wait out a 7 day ban, and hope people have PMed me information.
Whining aside.
I've only ever been to one other con in my lifetime, Calgary comic con and expo, and it was a pretty big venue. I basically wandered around in a daze, the set up was logical, but finding specific things was a real pain in the ass. For instance, looking for specific artists so I could stand in line. I went looking for one artist, only to find a sign stating when they would be in, and gee sorry, no sketches. What a waste of time, consider that artist was LOCAL. You can't take 3 days out of your *busy* schedule to meet your fans? Not in till 2pm? That's what I call lazy. It wasn't even for me, just a friend.
Well this time I am prepared, I've looked at a confusing floor map. Found a person's booth. I think I might know where my hero, Sam Kieth, will be sitting. Getting books signed and subbed is the only reason I made this trip. The wife wants to go out and see Boston, so I've got the crunch to get everything done on Friday on top of that.
Needless to say, it should be a blast.

There is a LOT more, but this is just the stuff I've bothered to upload to photobucket, and the filesize here is too small to upload directly. Maybe I'll be motivated to get more on photobucket. I have about 31 slabs that I must sell at some point.

So I subbed 68 books altogether at this con. Out of those, 51 were destined to be signed by Sam Kieth. I was fortunate to add 8 Jae Lee sigs on to my MCP books I had for Kieth as well.
I had bought a collection of books from a seller on the CGC forum, which he assured me that they were high grade. After going through hundreds of Maxx back issues, I ended up using most of his books, they came back thus...
9.8 - 19 9.6 - 25 9.4 - 4 9.2 - 4
These are including the extras that weren't part of the collection, which encompass wizard test print, ashcan, sketchbook, MCP issues, TPB, Darker Image, and 3 Erik Larsen sigs.
Out of those, in the Maxx run, the ones under 9.6 18, 19, 32 - 9.2 27, 30 - 9.4
I am not sure what happened with the 27 ( I subbed 2, one a newsstand, one direct) the direct came back 9.4 30 is almost entirely black, so no surprise here at all really. Very difficult cover
32 was pretty low, but to be fair, it is a difficult cover.
Now the 18 and 19, I THINK these were mishandled. If I recall correctly, those were picked up by Kieth's handlers, and there are definitely finger dents on the covers, which means they could most likely benefit from a press.
Overall I am extremely impressed with the collection I had picked up on boards. Out of approx. 35 books, there were at least 15 9.8's. Almost half. I guess I need a better eye, or perhaps it just wasn't my day, or perhaps next time I sub, I will just auto press. I had given it a lot of thought and decided against it. The differences between 9.6 and 9.8 can be so subtle, hard to tell.
