Dictatorships are not defined the same way anymore.
Many countries run by dictators are run by politicians that got to power illegally but we're not just talking about Military coups.
And at this point even Western countries are falling into that category.
If you don't have Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Press and Freedom of Association, it's actually impossible to have a true democracy.
A democracy is not just about tallying votes.
A democracy is about tallying votes after a free exchange of information.
You can absolutely and successfully argue that the exchange of information HAS NOT BEEN free. It has been manipulated by the Government in both Canada and the US.
Biden just was told by a Federal Judge to stop censoring information on Social Media. Can you imagine if that was Trump? The world would be foaming at the mouth at him...but crickets on Media about this.
Biden administration not only lied about Covid facts and manipulated perception, they also lied about Hunter Biden's Laptop which directly affected the 2020 election. That's not how a democracy works.
In Canada the media is bought by the Government and the largest Legacy news sites REFUSE to carry any news that implicates the government. More importantly (and this is very serious) they Canadian Government have just forced ALL social media to cancel news on Canadian internet unless they pay for it, so all the SM sites have chosen to DROP CARRYING THE NEWS.
So you're only subjected to news the Canadian government has paid for. Something that is not news. They literally only push stuff that favors the Canadian government because they don't want to lose their subsidy money.
These are not true democracies.
This is how the new authoritarians operate and control public opinion.
And it's terrifying. Anybody with half a brain and a modicum of objectivity can see it clearly.
