Scammers are scum. However, this guy buying huge-ticket books like that, in cash, doesn't seem like he was experienced enough to be buying huge-ticket books like that, in cash. The font of the labels were clearly off. I have only a few cgc slabs, but even a slab-novice like me spotted something "off" with the font. Glad though that he thought enough of it to help educate others, to learn from HIS mistakes, to avoid being taken. |

I looked back at my current collection - maybe 1500ish books and about 20 slabs. I've never actually bought a slabbed book - only had books that I already owned raw get slabbed (usually after a signature at a con) and the last book I sent to slab was probably in 2015?.
But after watching the many years-long sh!t-show of QC failures and disasters in the cgc-forum thread, there ain't no way in hell I'm sending my precious books to cgc for them to get their meat-hooks on them. Better off dropping them onto an airline luggage conveyer belt.
This is how I imagine cgc handling books sent in for grading nowadays:
