I think I have some great stories about chasing books or collections to share and I'm betting a few others out there do as well. What do you think? Should we do this?

I'm just wondering if I'm going to be the only one sharing stories or do others have stories to share?
I'm sure there are some terrific acquisition stories out there and this is what the thread is supposed to be about.
I have a few but I don't want to be the only one.

Dude. The thread was your idea. Why not start it off with a story or two? It's a comic book forum, and you have comic book stories. I'd love to hear some. Maybe pretend it's a Covid thread and just go nuts?

Should we do this? i dont know that i have ever "chased " any comics but just after those thor comics with beta ray bill came out (337-341 ?) . i was at the comic store . they must have had 100s of them in spinner racks . i asked the guy what was going on . he told me " everyone thought these issues were going to be a huge thing , we bought a bunch of them and they didnt sell " he was selling them for 1/2 the cover price 30 or 35 cents each .so i got all four . i took them home and read them . then i went back and got 4 more . i still have them today . in fact i just re read them not to long ago . those comics made me a thor fan . of course today everyone and there brother can wield Mjollnir , but thats none of my business .

That #337 was hot for quite awhile and I think still is...? You should sell a few & make some money! Then they'll announce BRB will be appearing in a movie, and you'll regret it. At least this is how it works for Zod.

Interestingly enough, I did NOT buy into the #337 hype when it happened. I thought Thor was a bit boring to read at the time, but I was drawn by the Simonson art, which I was won over by in the Teen Titans / X-men crossover. It was unusual and original and yet not too weird to drive me away. I didn't read Thor #337 until at least 2 decades after it was released in the 2000s. I think I read it in graphic novel form for the 1st time and I found it quite refreshing! ------------------------------------------------------------------ Ironically, after getting back into collecting in the 2000s, I ended up collecting the Thor run and he became my favorite Marvel character...and this leads me into my 1st Comic Chase story. I became obsessed with Journey Into Mystery #89 as one of my top 3 covers of all time (tied with Fantastic Four #12 and Daredevil #7). When the release of the "Syd's Luncheonette" collection was announced on the CGC forums, which was an original owner collection of high grade Marvels from the 1960's and I found out a high grade copy of JIM #89 was in it, I HAD to have it. The copy was a CGC 9.0 (which in the 2000s was an unheard of grade for a book like JIM #89 which was tough in high grade) The collection was being unveiled at the New York Comic Con, which was still a relatively new show at the time being put on by Reed Pop. I couldn't make the show (I still wasn't going to many conventions at the time) but Foolkiller was offering to look at books for anyone that couldn't make the show. So after a few PM exchanges, Brian ended up looking at the book for me and buying it on the spot for me! And so went the purchase of my 1st high grade copy of JIM #89! It's long gone but it was a great comic chase story that spanned 2 countries and 600 miles, all for a comic book I HAD TO HAVE! This was the book.

Boy, this thread went over so well. Time for another "Greatest Comic Chast" story?
