Unless you're a huge fan of the Star Wars franchise, there's not a'lot to reccomend about most of the Marvel SW series. Back in the day it pretty much was mostly just a way to tide over die hard fans til the next official SW film came out... that is until 1985. In '85 the Marvel 'Star Wars' comic series was turned upside down and became an almost completely original creation of genius writer Mary Jo Duffy and one-of-a-kind visionary artist Cynthia Martin. In their hands Lucasfilm's narratives and characters were placed in a wild new post-Empire world more comparable to the settings of complex 80's sci-fi comics like Omega Men, Mircronauts, Crystar, etc., wild stuff really and imho vastly underrated. How did Duffy and Martin manage to come up with such an original mutation of the SW saga? The answer can be found here in a two part series of articles all about the origins of their magnificent run: Part 1 - www.splicetoday.com/pop-culture/the-wonders-of-marvel-s-star-warsPart 2 - www.splicetoday.com/pop-culture/small-warsNearly the entire Duffy/Martin run is collected in the final edition of the Dark Horse collection of Marvel SW stuff (which also contains some equaly wild/out there art by Sam De LaRosa). This stuff is just flawless imho. So anyone else on here in love with Marvel's Duffy/Martin 'Star Wars' comics?
