"The value difference between a 9.8 and a 9.6 on this book is about $1000". Is that true? God I hate CGC collectors At least I don't see anybody pushing a 9.7 grade on the CGC board anymore

What’s the chance that happened after grading? That corner is quite a sight, but I didn’t find anything readily available to compare it to.

It's certainly possible that the corner damage occurred from SCS. In other words, CGC graded it a 9.6 and then the case damaged the book further when it was mailed. But there's no way to tell for sure on this particular book. Personally, I would never give a book with that big of a defect a 9.6. I would also expect that corner to be mentioned in the graders notes. So that might support the SCS damage path. But we're talking about inconsistent grading and inconsistent notes, so anything is possible.

I’ll try to keep my attention on inconsistent grading. I don't know what that means. When I read past the apparent “whine” Gregg had about the damage to the comic I got stuck on it being a CGC problem and not just a circumstance of the grade falling due to rough handling during the SS/regrading process. I’m more leaning to believe this happened after grading, or at least worsened. Without notes or a “before” picture I’m going with what I see in front of me and I suppose giving CGC benefit of doubt.
