I brought this up before. I remember reading about it somewhere as a kid and thought it interesting that an image, specifically a made up gag, could evoke such a negative reaction in people.

Superman #75 (vol 2) I’d think this has to make a list of Controvertial comic books. If not from readers and fandom themselves, from the media and public at large. I don’t believe a comic book or cartoon character ever “died” on such a large scale.

Would the Alf cover count? Little Lulu #33 probably falls into the same category as Alf. No one likely batted an eye when it was on the stands, but now we do a double take when seeing it.

Again not a comic but I love this album: Sam Gross was awesome. Gahan Wilson, too. Great magazine for a few years.
