After seeing Organic Squishee's link for Shock Suspenstories #10 I was reminded of the CVA service that was going to assess eye appeal and best examples within a given grade. A 3rd party graded book with the CVA sticker added was to give buyers added confidence that a book they are considering is thought to be "best in grade". I was thinking how few books I see anymore with the CVA sticker on them besides the occasional Action or Superman slab on CLink. The company web site is still up and apparently the service is available. The "Verification Search" is still under construction after several years and their gallery only shows a dozen or so comics that have been evaluated and deemed "exceptional". Does anyone have any first hand experience with the service or possibly bought or traded books that went through CVA? I don't really see the point of this service as I'd think most collectors can judge a book's aesthetics on their own, but maybe some buyers like the additional bells & whistles attached to a comic's condition and grade. This Monsters On The Prowl #24 is currently being auctioned and carries the CVA sticker. I think it's a wonderful looking book, although I expect some will be bothered by the slight miscut. After 7 or 8 years in business, I'm wondering exactly what impact CVA has had on the hobby, if at all. I love the gif Ditch made.

Regardless of whether I agree or not with the concept of CVA, (I don't. I can judge eye appeal and don't need a sticker to help me with that) the slight miscut should have disqualified that book for the sticker.
As far as the impact of CVA, I have no idea. Are they even still around?

Awesome gif If the owner or buyer were to remove the sticker, I wonder if they'll suddenly take notice of the miscut. I can imagine some people from some forums using it as a "Shield of Perfection" when sharing it and fielding comments about the centering. Especially if it's for sale. I'm really curious how they have their Cash Grab ideas designed. Is it a daily/weekly/monthly (hourly) scheduled meeting? Is this someone's specific job, or do they have a suggestion box outside the breakroom?- Best ideas get a $50 Wal-Mart gift card.

My understanding is there is a partnership between ComicLink and CVA, possibly even an investment.
Without ComicLink, I think CVA would have faded into obscurity as a dumb idea that no one was asking for.

I don't get the math involved here, unless you're submitting high value books prior to placing them up for sale. A modern book with a max value of $200 would cost $10 each(minimum of 5 to be submitted), waiting through a TAT of 15 business days, and paying for shipping both ways. What are we looking at here, $90-ish to (hopefully) sticker five books? But,but,but....it has a stickimer! A shiny hologram stickimer!

I think it cost me $50 to get a VA sticker when it was asked of me. The book was going into a Clink auction, and it did do particularly well. But I'd say that was largely the timing. You can get a Silver Surfer #3 9.6 for anything from $7-12k now.
