I think Avengers #85 "wins" this round. Fwiw, my illusion of Silver Surfer being a somewhat more highbrow or sophisticated character/comic than most Marvel's has been shattered. A giant fire breathing space lizard named "Cap 'n Rept yl"... really? I guess I should start reading that series.

I wish Sham Comics could include some Archies, it'd be just like that. Any Archie stuff in the public domain? DCM has titles like Pep, Wilbur, Katy Keene, etc., but not the Archie flagship title. I haven't read much from the "hero" genre from the Golden Age outside of Superman and some of the DC reprint collections, but I like what I've seen from the early MLJ comics. I'm not familiar with Sham Comics. I'd consider ordering Sham 1 & 2 although I cringe at paying $13.99 for just two books. The Ogre books look kind of cool, but 2 of the 3 are sold out. Anything you can recommend? I've only read Sham #1 and 2. It's like MST3K for comics but more R rated and a little more immature

Nice! The Subby series had some great looking covers, though I'm not too crazy about having "savage" added to the title as the run wound down. I understand many people didn't like the "window box" covers, mostly due to limiting the space an artist has to work with, but I like them. I think the look of having the logo and trade dress separated from the art is pretty cool, and allows for the colors used in logos, cover blurbs, etc. to be more complementary to the art (in the box). Having characters or balloons that spill out of the box(like your example) makes those things more eye catching imo. It's probably no coincidence both additional examples here have white backgrounds and red fonts. Whites or blues for the background I generally find most appealing from this period. bbbb

They may make for empty OA, but they're awesome for comics. I wonder how the OA differs in price Obviously Artist and Title are a factor, but I'd think they'd generally be cheaper.

That's a good question. I quickly glanced over CAF and only saw Marvel Tales #34(Kane/Romita) offered at $45,000 and Mighty World of Marvel #18(UK comic Starlin/Sinnott) for $9800. I really can't use those examples to make a comparison. I'll try to make some time over the next several days to look at completed sales on eBay and HA. There's some really cool Ron Wilson Cover Recreations & "coveresque" commissions of FF & Thing on CAF currently for sale.
