ME TV’s new show, Collector’s Call, introduces some bigtime pop culture memorabilia and Americana collectors in the country. Material featured on the show will include everything from The Wizard of Oz to Coca-Cola to comic books.
The show is hosted by Lisa Whelchel, the actress who portrayed Blair on The Facts of Life. It’s scheduled for a 13-episode, unscripted run.
Whelchel will talk to the collectors about why they enjoy their chosen collecting field and what they like about the property. She’ll also talk to professional appraisers and experts on how much the collections are worth. The show will add a bit of drama by giving collectors the opportunity to trade something from their collections for a coveted item they don’t already own.
The first episode followed Hollywood prop and political collector Paul Lisnek, the second featured toy and advertising collector Rick Goldschmidt, and the upcoming third episode introduces Winnie the Pooh collector and Guinness record holder Deb Hoffman.
Collector’s Call airs on the classic TV network on Sunday nights.
Artist Jim Engel is a cartoonist and toy designer by trade, so it’s no surprise that he is the proud owner of a comic-book art collection more than five decades in the making. See the original artwork for Marvel’s Avengers No. 53, Jack Kirby work, and original artwork from a 1977 Captain America issue. Will he trade some of it for a statue of Doc Savage?
