This is what I wrote here when he was hired. Nothing changed. CGC doesn't give a damn about their forums or their moderation. link

no discussion on CGC Mike being Canned? what happened to this place I think Mike was the crappiest moderator I've ever seen. Mike was too nice a person to be a Moderator and people that are too nice have hard time putting their foot down when they really need to. I've met him numerous times and even went to lunch with him at CGC a couple of years ago. The first time I met him was probably 14 years ago in NYC. I do think he meant well, but he had to juggle directives from above as well. In the last 5 months I've been back we really patched things up between us. He was super friendly towards me and he moderated fairly and consistently, not allowing any contentious behavior, which is really ALL I asked for. Nothing more. Our last board message exchange was positive. I'm sad to see him go, but that's life in a big corporation. You get walked to the door as soon as they don't need you anymore.

I just didnt like how he handled certain scenarios.
For instance, someone could start a completely legitimate thread that broke no rules. Then, the usual cabal over there that might not agree with it, would come in and start trashing the thread.
So, instead of moderating the problem individuals, Mike would cater to them and just delete the thread, since it was becoming a "problem". Effectively giving them what they wanted.
That's not proper moderation.

Yeah that's it-for the past 15 years women haven't joined the forum because they knew one day ppl would start posting that's what she said. It was allowed in the cornfield thread because who cares. then he banned it there too. yeah these kind of moderation actions fixed things- If you got a nonsense strike then came back and tried to explain why it was nonsense it was like talking to a wall. you would make a legitimate point and he just ignored it, going on about something completely irrelevant.

WTF is going on in that CGCMike thread?
You've got some people cracking jokes, while others are wailing and gnashing their teeth as if the guys entire life (along with the forum) have been absolutely ruined.
Am I missing something here? People lose jobs all of the time. When I've lost a job, nobody around me went into hysterics about it, because it's not the end of the world. I just went out and searched until I found another job.
What's next? Is CGC going to offer counseling to members who feel they need it? I'm just truly amazed at humanity's current inability to get a frigging grip.

No one really cares about CGCMIke.

So, instead of moderating the problem individuals, Mike would cater to them and just delete the thread, since it was becoming a "problem". Effectively giving them what they wanted. That's not proper moderation. Agreed. Mike was favoring sides. Mike was a really, REALLY nice guy, but he was too nice. He'd listen to everyone's input and make a popular decision rather than an objective one. For example, the AI thread I started a year ago. It was a perfectly reasonable discussion and Mike just locked it after the cabal arrived. When I asked for a review, the response I got was that I 'used too many capital letters' to emphasize my points. That's all they could find, because I wasn't breaking any rules. I genuinely believed that the threat of a law suit after the Meyer's $10 Million settlement changed CGC's moderation style and why they outright banned contentious behavior. It's really the only thing I pushed for against Moderation. The people throwing the contentious behavior were doing so because they couldn't defend their ideas with logic or reason, and so resorted to insults, and moderation were allowing contentious behavior in one direction only, because moderation was chummy with the contentious people. Most of my strikes were from me trying to defend my ideas or myself from the attacks. With the contentious behavior expelled, the last few months before Mike left were like a breath of fresh air, but that's what the forums should have been like all along. If they'd done this from the beginning, I likely wouldn't have had any strikes.

I genuinely feel sorry for Mike because it looks like he was caught off guard and didn't see this coming. Hopefully he finds a new job quickly. I hope I'm wrong but I think I heard that he bought a house near CGC.

I hope I'm wrong but I think I heard that he bought a house near CGC. He lived in the area (a bit further out) and he worked remotely a lot of the time. I hate the way corporations deal with employees but I understand why they do it. You don't get warned when this happens. You get walked to the door and handed a severance package (hopefully).

I wouldn't be a bit surprised if firing Mike was the first step in getting rid of the forums.
I'm aware that the forums provide some benefits to CGC, but I think overall they are a huge liability to them.

well most moderators shouldn't be so well known on the board they moderate
i believe that was their first mistake

Sharon (skypinkblu) started a GoFundMe for Mike Greenwood (CGCMike). Thanks Sharon! Here's the LINK. I also put the information into the forum's global footer, so it will show up at the bottom of every page.

I'm dead. PN brings up my dirty laundry about all the strikes I've received over 4 years and then in the same breath PN accuses me of 'brown nosing moderation'. He literally makes no sense. Good grief.
