A friend, and a good person (honest person) wouldn't come up to my table and see my Hulk #1 and HIDE what he was thinking. He'd say, "Man, did you see what this book just sold for??" THAT is what a FRIEND or an HONEST person would do. It's as PLAIN and SIMPLE as that. And whereas, I would be happy that Roy came back and made 'financial' amends - I'd still see it as, 'That prick should've just said something when he came up to my table. the reason is because i will tell him what some books go for etc, and how to price them accordingly because another dealer would tell him the books were not worth as much to take advantage of him
i would tell him what the book is worth i.e. what he should ask, what he should take and/or get for it and what i would pay for it
one time he had a strangers in paradise 1 1st print book that i told him i would like to buy and he asked what it's worth and i told him and he sold it to me for half that because of the relationship we've built over time
i can't tell you the number of times i've corrected someone i know because i would rather them know who they are dealing with for both good and bad prices (like when i tell them something they have is overpriced), karma is a real thing
honor and integrity i learned a long time ago are huge in this community, once word gets out you have neither, good luck

My version, which I typed up last night is a pretty thorough explanation of what happened. Now you have all the evidence. What you choose to do with it is entirely up to you. I disagree with this completely
the details you are leaving out (which you started to include with this post) are the heart of what everyone else is saying (negative about you)
of course to you they are not important but that's where the disagreement lies between your version and theirs (again it's more than one person)
for the record what you did wasn't wrong, I think the problem is how you did it
it speaks of your character (in their eyes and unfortunately in mine as well if it's true)
so forgive me but the devil is in the details
and I think I know you well enough now that I believe what was said about you is true
Which details am I leaving out?  I was there and there are witnesses so it's not just my word. ALL THREE OF US agree on the story. None of the people talking trash were there. They heard everything 2nd hand and the story was spread by a bunch of jealous dealers who thought they were going to have a shot at the books. Every step of our deal was above board, we worked out all the details favorably, nothing was forced, nothing was pushed, the deal was cut peacefully and there were no hard feelings or problems until people started gossipping. After that the floodgates opened. After the gossip started the selling dealer even confirmed that our deal was still good. Y'all accuse me of posting fake news about Covid, but now you're running with news like this.   |

My ex's dad was an international tradesman. His job was to source things. One day a client of his told him they needed a special resin. The resin was very expensive. I think it was like $10K a shot. My ex's dad found the resin IN THE SAME BUILDING as the client. So my ex's dad bought the resin, had it shipped to himself, then turned around and shipped it to the client for a good profit. Do you think my ex's dad should have told the client that the resin was a few floors away for cheaper? |
