VCG Basic Overview
The VCG is a fun game where you earn virtual money through forum participation and then use it to buy virtual comic books or other collectibles. The goal is the same as in real life, to enjoy the satisfaction of searching for a collection, completing it, and then moving on to a new one.
The VCG is not a competition, it's designed to allow you to collect at your own pace. New members can join easily without feeling they are being left behind. On the other hand, if two or more members want to compete, that's fine too.
The game incorporates a bank where interest is earned on deposited earnings, and a store where that money can be used to purchase collectible items which then show up as icons in your profile and mini-profile.
The first task for a new player is to complete a prescribed collection in order to obtain the status of Veteran Collector. Veteran Collectors are awarded a special icon, and are allowed special privileges in collecting whatever they desire: comic books, action figures, toys, coins, stamps, automobiles, etc.

VCG Rules & How To Play1) The first step is to earn some money so you can start buying your first comic books. Please see VCG Earnings for details. 2) Before you can move on to collecting anything you want, you must complete the prescribed collection, which is Amazing Spider-Man (1-30). This can be found in the TCBF Store. You can access the store through the navigation panel above, or through the small tool bar at the bottom left of your screen. The TCBF Bank can also be found in both places. 3) Once you have completed the prescribed collection, you will be a super star. You will sell the books back to the bank for the full value that you paid for them, and be awarded the coveted 'Veteran Collector' icon. You will now be able to collect whatever you want, and you will be starting out with $4,898.25 in your bank account [the total amount you spent acquiring ASM (1-30)]. 4) As a Veteran Collector, you will now start working with me to fulfill your collection goals. For each item, you will submit an image and a market price in the Item Request Thread. As my schedule allows, I will modify the image to fit the game and load it into the TCBF Store for you to purchase when you have the available funds. You will need to make sure you are using a reasonable, fairly-recent sale of a comparable item to determine the market price.

VCG Earnings
Players earn money through forum participation.
Players earn $2.50 per post anywhere in the 'Everything Else' forum category. This is immediately and automatically deposited into their wallet. There is no limit on the amount of post activity; so if you want to earn more, you can post more as you see fit. Please note that posts in other areas of the TCBF forum will not earn money.

TCBF BankThe TCBF Bank is fairly self-explanatory. Here's an example... Yesterday, after the game was activated, I made 19 posts in the 'Everything Else' category. This gave me $9.50 in my wallet. Before I left for the night, I deposited that $9.50 into my savings account. This morning, after my first post, I checked my bank account. You'll see that it gave me 1% on my balance. You may also notice that there is a small rounding error discrepancy of one cent, depending on where you look in the statement. This, along with small negative balances is a well-known bug. The coder is aware of it, but can't seem to fix it. Don't worry about it if you see it - it's never caused a problem. TCBF Bank Summary1) Can only be accessed when you are logged in. 2) Can be accessed through the navigation panel at the top of the window, or through the small game bar in the lower left of the window. 3) Allows you to earn a whopping 1% on your savings account balance for every day you make at least one post. 4) Allows you to deposit money from your wallet into your savings account. Remember, the wallet is where your earnings are automatically deposited when you post. 5) Allows you to withdraw money for purchases. For example, when you want to buy something from the TCBF Store, you withdraw money from your savings and it appears in your wallet so you can make the purchase. 6) Shows the last 5 transactions before they scroll off. 7) There is a known bug which causes reporting errors of small amounts. Don't worry, you won't lose a penny.

TCBF StoreThe TCBF Store is where you purchase collectible items. It operates almost exactly like Amazon, or any other online store. Much like the TCBF Bank, it's fairly self-explanatory. TCBF Store Summary1) Can only be accessed when you are logged in. 2) Can be accessed through the navigation panel at the top of the window, or through the small game bar in the lower left of the window. 3) Eventually, there will be many categories as Veteran Collectors decide what they want to collect. 4) A 'basket' is used for multiple item checkout. 5) It uses pop-up confirmation messages to avoid mistakes. 6) When an item is purchased it shows up in your profile and mini-profile. 7) If you hover over the item, the name of the item appears. If you click on the item, it will also show you the purchase details. Below is an example of how I purchased my first comic book.
So, because of the 'no hoarding' and 'bottoms up' rules, I now need to purchase my first book, which will be ASM #30. Since a picture is worth a thousand words, here's how it's done using the TCBF Store. Access the store, scroll to the bottom of the 'ASM Comic Books (1-30)' category and click 'Add To Cart' on the ASM 30 item. Scroll to the top and click on the 'Basket' which shows one item inside. The basket opens up and shows my selected item. Click 'Checkout.' A confirmation message pops up. Click 'Puchase.' Another confirmation message pops up. Click 'here' to see the item in the profile. The book is now displayed in the profile. If you click on the book, it will give you summary information. The book is also displayed in the mini-profile.

Hey Guys, I'm going to make a few BIG changes to the VCG game to make it more fun, especially for newer players. At first, we had a lot of people playing the two paid games, but that's tapered off to almost nothing now. I'm guessing people just grew tired of them, which is totally understandable - I know I get tired of playing the same games after a while. But this changes things because the paid games were a major source of earnings in the VCG game. So, I need to adjust for this or we'll lose VCG players. Also, without paid games, it's an uneven playing field favoring those who already have large bank accounts since they are currently earning 1% per day on big balances. My experience with this game tells me that the game, and the forum in general, is more fun with more active posting - so, I'm going to try to make more incentives along those lines. So, here are the big changes: 1) Posts in the 'Everything Else' category will change from $0.50/post to $2.50/post. If you make 10 posts, you earn an immediate $25. If you make 20 posts, you earn an immediate $50. Etc. There is no limit on the number of posts you can make. 2) Bank interest will change from 1% per day to 10% per year.3) Paid games will be de-monetized and go back to being just regular games without paychecks. The only thing that won't be allowed is sequential posting for the express purpose of racking up a bunch of posts quickly. You know, like posting 1, 2, 3, 4; or posting one smiley after another. If I see it, or it's reported, I'll subtract money. There are tons of threads to post in, and new threads are easily created, so it shouldn't be difficult to earn money at $2.50 per post. Don't forget, this game is only applicable to the 'Everything Else' category. Posts made in other categories do not earn money.
