My first question to you is very important because it will dictate the type and value of the books the game will use. Question: How much should your yearly comic book budget be (and still be realistic)?Assume an avid comic book collector with no other hobbies, full approval from the 'significant other,' and spending 100% of the available *Discretionary Income on comic books. *Discretionary Income - the amount of income that a household or individual has to invest, save or spend after taxes and necessities are paid. Are you talking about weekly new comics, old back issues, or both combined?

This is great input for the game. Thank you very much. And for those who haven't answered, please keep the responses coming in. Second QuestionAssume that in addition to your regular job, you supplement your income with some form of small comic book business. This could be: A) eBay business selling off unwanted parts of your collection or B) You flip books by buying through eBay, garage sales, Craigslist ads, conventions, etc.; and then you sell them somewhere. or C) You flip books through the signature series - buy, get sig, sell. or D) Some other form of comic related business. How much additional Discretionary Income (after all costs) do you think could realistically be earned through this hypothetical activity? I have no idea. I wouldn't even know how to figure this out.

Hi guys, Thanks for your input! Question 1 is basically how much an avid comic book collector spends on the hobby. Many collectors have a side business to supplement their hobby, and that was basically question 2. I spoke to a few of my friends yesterday, and the side businesses varied between a few hundred dollars a year to $50k or more. I needed to find a balance between a realistic budget for an aggressive collector, what to collect during the first phase of this game, how that would play into future phases, and various technical aspects like inventory memory requirements. I spent yesterday figuring this all out. This game is highly immersive and will not only replicate most aspects of the hobby in a virtual world, but it also serve to encourage both the quantity and quality of forum participation. To start off with, in order to collect comics you need money. There will be tons of ways to earn money in this game. Initially, the most fundamental way will be forum activity. Part of forum activity is post counts. I looked at active forum members in other forums, as well as my own activity. For example, when I was an active member of the CGC forum, I easily posted between 20-30 posts per day. So, to make a long story short, the balance for post counts is targeted at a $10K comic book budget per year and 20 posts per day. As I mentioned, this is only one of many ways to earn money in the game. Here's a graphical representation of this budget (daily and yearly). You'll notice that this is a stepped function with steps at 10 and 20 posts per day. So, the take-away from all of this is that if you want to be competitive in this game and have plenty of money to collect, just make 20 or more posts per day. If you are familiar with the forum here, you know that there are many games and threads here that make hitting that number pretty easy. I'll post the exact details of how the monetary system works later; but there's an immediate payout per post, and then I have it set to make a daily payout based on total post count (you won't see this until the following day).

I'll be rolling out the monetary system today so that you guys can start earning money to buy comics. The store will be rolled out later today or tomorrow (hopefully), but you won't have enough to buy anything yet.
I'll explain everything later, but all you really need to know today is that post counts will give you an immediate payout into your wallet, and daily earnings will be direct deposited into your bank account. You'll see this in your profile and mini-profile when it's implemented.

Okay...the Monetary System has been loaded and is up and running. The first thing you'll notice is the following additions to your profile and mini-profile: When you post, you will see an immediate amount per post accrue in 'Money' (this is your wallet). The second thing you'll notice is a new bar in the lower left hand corner of your screen. This holds quick links to the bank, the stock market, gift money, donations, and eventually the TCBF comic book store: The only thing you need right now is the bank. This is where your daily wages will be auto-deposited. The bank interest is set at a generous 5% APR. Please note: if you skip a day and don't post, you will lose the interest for that day.
