Someone help me out here. I must be going crazy. I selected the title of this thread rather than the "new" button to the left of the text. So I was brought to the top of page 1 instead of the latest post(s). I noticed I have the first post in this thread, but I don't remember creating this topic. I rarely create topics like this with controversial subjects, though I'm often more than happy to participate (yeah, I know ). I remember typing the post that initiates the thread, but I'll be damned if I remember deciding to make a topic about AGW. God, I'm getting old and it's scaring me.

Ah. I didn't see that poll. Now, if you tell me that I must've seen it as I voted in it, then concerns regarding my memory still apply.

Here's something that I wanted to reference in a prior conversation, but I couldn't remember (there's a pattern developing here) where I heard it. Well I found it. An excellent BBC Radio series' of podcasts called The Infinite Monkey Cage, and in particular this episode: Making the Invisible Visible. It's less than half an hour's investment of your time. The other episodes are also highly informative and entertaining. Making the Invisible VisibleOkay, I can't get the link to work. Just Google "The Infinite Monkey Cage" and look for series 15 episode 6.

Really UncaBen? LuckyBaru is nothing other than a useless pit of vile thoughts and intents. He clearly gets off on being this way, look at his post history, 90% is engaging with remarks intended to rile another person up. All while he sits there and thinks "Dance, puppets, dance" to himself. The guy is a . No matter how well he can search the web for quotes. He has no other function.

I try to give everyone the benefit of the doubt. I tend to judge folks based on my personal experience with them, not by the opinion of others and often not by how they interact with others (especially online) as I may not be privy to relevant background information regarding past relationships between the two. Of course, there are exceptions to the rule.
Part of that exchange is on me. I should have realized it when I resorted to explaining things to him like I used to explain things to my six-year-old, yet I was talking to a grown man. The fact that he claimed to draw an equivalence between the two terms because one was used in the definition of another showed a basic confusion on the relationship between words and their intensional definitions. Because there is a relationship between two words (or concepts) doesn't necessarily make them synonymous.
All I can say is I'm glad he wasn't a school teacher. At least, I don't think he was.

Agreed and point taken. I wrote that under frustration because that is exactly what he does to me. He was a police officer, and brags endlessly about it when he gets the opportunity.

A police officer. That explains his attitude. Not that all police officers conduct themselves that way. He's likely used to being treated as a person in authority under all conditions. But he's either not the brightest bullet in the barrel, or indeed he's a troll as you suggest. I'm just glad he's not in that position anymore. I'd love to know if there was a history of an inordinate number of complaints filed against him. It would not surprise me.

While I don't imagine his record is exemplary, I do imagine he did what he could to paint himself in the best light as possible. He's proven that he manipulates, and what's really pathetic is that his actions will never stand for what he wishes they would. It's unfortunate that most encounters I've had with American law enforcement have been poor, to say the least, but I don't let it be the benchmark for what I believe. Just that I've been unfortunate to have to deal with what happens to be all too common. Jerks being in positions that in a otherwise sane civilization making their way to positions they don't rightly deserve.
