I may have a solution. This will avoid a repeat of the horrible candy cane versus cookie riots from last year. Just messing around...but I think this could be the backbone for the banner...and I'll add the books on either side...and they'll change at least twice. This gets tricky because of memory size issues with animated gifs.

Okay...got the banner stuff done. I can add more books in another layer if you guys have any more favorites that you run across.
Now...should I change the theme colors like I did on Halloween...or was that too hard on the eyes? Seems like the normal blue I use isn't festive enough.

I wouldn't change the forum colors generally, because you do want newcomers to sort of see it as it is, or supposed to be. If that makes sense.

I can also make versions and allow the user to toggle between theme types, but that's only available to members - non-members would only see the default version (whatever I choose as default).
