Hi Guys,
I'm going to be making changes to the Controversial Topics board to provide TCBF a better balance between comic book posts and non-comic posts. It's currently out of proportion and needs to be adjusted or we will continue to lose new and old members who want the focus to be on comic books. This can be done by either limiting the amount of non-comic posts, or increasing the number of on-topic comic book posts. I'm choosing the latter method. I think you'll like these changes because I'm trying to make it a fun process.
Here are the changes in a nutshell: 1) The Controversial Topics board will be visible to everyone, not just members who are logged in. 2) Full access to this board (the ability to create new threads and reply to posts) can be acquired through forum participation. 3) Members can earn money by making on-topic posts in the Comic Books and Journals boards. This money can then be used to purchase full access to the Controversial Topics board through the TCBF store.

Want to get started right away?
1) Week #1 (2/4/24 - 2/10/24) only costs $5. 2) Earn $5 by making on-topic posts in the Comic Books and/or Journals boards. 3) Buy CT Full Access - Week #1 in the TCBF Store. 4) Post "Opt-In" in this thread. 5) After review of your posts, Moderation will give you Full Access for the period you purchased.

Ok...it's all set up and ready to go. I've split February into 4 weeks to make it easy to get started. After that access is purchased in months. I'll be around through Sunday, so if you have any questions about CT Board access, please post them here in this thread and I'll answer them.

In order to conclude and calculate the Ditch's Forum Game winner, I refunded all the books purchased in the store. For those interested in buying comic books and other items for their Profile and Mini-Profile, you can easily re-buy the books you had, or choose new ones. With the exception of CT Full Access periods, all store items are 100% refundable. All wallets have been reset to zero, so it's now a level playing field across the board.

Hi Ditch, Seeing that you will be around until Sunday, I was wondering if you could amend or clarify #3 in the above. In the case that Roy is not participating enough to generate digital funding to unlock areas in controversial topics for him to post his "Roy Stuff", the easy workaround is for someone to create a journal that focuses on those very topics that you are trying to make the message board NOT the focus of. Perhaps, journals should be collecting centric in someway shape or form without overt or veiled references to controversial topics to circumvent the spirt of the directional change. Because you know what is coming.

And this isn't directed at any particular member here, but I want to keep the Comic Books and Journals boards extremely clean, meaning they are almost 100% focused on the comic book hobby. Joking around, and drifting off-course is fine, but the vast majority of the posts must be hobby-centric. If posting veers off course to any significant degree, it will be considered disruption and those posts will very quickly find themselves whisked away by a powerful electro-disruptive force. This will apply to all future posts, with prior posts being grandfathered in. For example, I will personally not be allowed to continue to post random subject matter in my own journal. If I wanted to continue to do that, the most prudent thing to do would be to detach it from the Journals board and move it to the Community area. In any case, this is what I meant by "on-topic posts" in the post above.

By the way, the quickest way to earn money is in the Journals board. Almost all collectors love to see your books, and it's extremely easy to post images here.

One last thing before I forget.
Most comic collectors love games, especially games where they can compete against one another using skills that are important to the hobby. Popular games that I created in the past were "Guess that Comic," "The Grid Game," and "Ditch's Grading Game," just to name a few.
I'm always looking for Game Masters. If you are interested, it's a quick and fun way to earn money. Just let me know, and I'll work with you to set it up.

On an interesting side note, I have been thinking about starting a personal journal here for some time. Last summer, I was going to start one on the CGC forums, but they've turned into a cruddy mess and are nearly unusuable. I was going to use it to document my life as a collector and to talk about my time in the hobby as well as on the CGC forums, including many of the controversial topics that everyone has so much angst about. I've been meaning to do that for years and I think the time is nearing. It would be like an all-time best seller as far as comic forum threads go. And for the record, I would NEVER abuse the feature. It's not in me to do something like that. I prefer to stay within the spirit of the law, rather than in the letter of it.

I see this as disruptive to the board and a turn off for people.

I've seen this recently in other areas (example...Taylor Swift). I think this is when you just accept that it's one of the costs of living in a democracy. And there's always the ignore feature.

I think most comicdom would be interested in reading them. It's something I've been thinking about a lot, especially which stories to share and how much detail to put into them.
