All sorts of rumors about former Chinese leader being pulled out of parliament but no real answers yet.

{Article in spoiler} Chinese Communist agents are targeting MPs, senators and political aides, the Canadian Security Intelligence Service yesterday told the House affairs committee. “We are very concerned about targeting,” testified Michelle Tessier, deputy director.
“We know the Chinese Communist Party is involved and interested in promoting its own national interest,” said Tessier. “They are a big actor in foreign interference.”
“Did the Chinese Communist regime interfere in the last federal election?” asked Conservative MP Michael Cooper (St. Albert-Edmonton). “As you can appreciate I can’t get into operational details of our investigations,” replied Deputy Tessier.
“Are current parliamentarians or senators or volunteers in various campaigns or staff members working for Members of Parliament or senators that Parliament should be made aware that could potentially be compromised?” asked Conservative MP Blaine Calkins (Red Deer-Lacombe, Alta.). “We are very concerned about the targeting,” replied Deputy Tessier. “We know there is certainly a desire to target elected officials at all levels of government.”
Chief Electoral Officer Stéphane Perrault said he was unaware of any Chinese interference in the 2019 or 2021 federal elections. Perrault acknowledged his office did not have investigative powers to follow all leads. “I recognize it’s a challenge,” he said.
“How reasonable would it be to assume these kinds of things are happening so covertly we wouldn’t be aware?” asked MP Calkins. “It’s quite possible that some of that is happening and that is a matter of concern,” replied Electoral Officer Perrault.
“I think that’s why we have national security agencies to look into these matters,” said Perrault. “I do not have that mandate or capacity to look into that.”
A former Canadian security agent in August 9 testimony at the Commons ethics committee said CSIS had names of public office holders known to have taken payments from foreign agents. “There are elected officials at all levels whether it’s municipal, provincial or federal who are being paid by foreign governments,” testified Michel Juneau-Katsuya, former chief of the Asia-Pacific desk at the Canadian Security Intelligence Service.
“It is still happening,” said Juneau-Katsuya. “Foreign agents try to recruit elected officials. It’s fairly easy because elected officials don’t necessarily listen to security guidelines to protect themselves.”
“What we know for sure is we have various foreign countries that succeeded in recruiting elected officials – again, municipal, provincial or federal – and were capable of influencing this way,” he said. “We see that also, when we see at the end of their mandate, cabinet ministers going to work for a foreign company that works directly against national security and the national interests of Canada.”

This has that match in a tinderbox feel to it. China is a much older civilization than the West. As such, their governments have evolved much further than ours in the West. Governments never give MORE freedom. They never want people to pay LESS taxes. They never want the public to have MORE power. Their noose only tightens in one direction. When you observe China, you are looking at what the West will look like down the road. As Western governments continue to tighten the noose on individual freedoms they MUST necessarily become MORE authoritarian, MORE tyrannical and MORE opposed to the public. That's just simple logic. We'll never get there, you say? Remember when people would have been opposed to massive lockdowns, loss of personal freedoms and injecting's of experimental drugs against their will? 3 years ago, pre pandemic they NEVER would have been allowed to get away with such things. Now it's been so normalized that soon 2019 will be a memory we'll talk to our grandchildren about. Now people say things like "well, let them die". Newspapers stated that. FREAKING MASS PRODUCED NEWSPAPERS STATED THAT. Imagine that.

In understanding how rule necessarily moves towards tyranny without opposition from the people, it's also important to remember that no tyrannical government EVER rules indefinitely and eventually the people rise up against it.
This is a cycle made necessary by the human spirit, which always eventually moves towards freedom.
The people in China are revolting...and I shudder to think how the CCP will respond against the people.

The reason these protests are happening in China now, is because an apartment fire started and burned residents alive.
Their doors were LOCKED FROM THE OUTSIDE by the CCP to enforce lockdowns.
They could not escape.
This is what happens when the government rules the people and the people don't rule the government.

If China's government loosens its iron grip on the people, Canada might be next! Btw, 2 or 3 Tweets per page (including requotes) cause minimal loading problems, but more can cause real issues. Just FYI.

Just FYI. No way Canada loosens. Not until there's a revolt. That's the pattern history has shown is inevitable. Regarding Tweets, I haven't had any problems - I use Chrome. I use Tweets because it saves me having to upload images separately to keep links to articles from looking like a wall of text. I appreciate the advice. I'll keep it in mind.

No reason to keep it in mind. Mr. Musk will be changing it shortly, anyway.
What is with people telling other people how to please do something in their post, anyway? Little bit of a control fetish, that, especially in a snarky superiority manner.

I actually understand his frustration as in the early days of the boards, people posting multiple YouTube videos used to bog my pages down to a crawl so I can relate.

Yes, and I am properly admonished. I was showing off, a little. Mom said I was smart, so.......

While China reels under the weight of protests, neither the US nor the Canadian governments will say much in support of the protests of freedom from an Authoritarian regime.
This is because if they issued statements of support towards Chinese protests would cannibalize their own politics and have to admit their own destruction of freedoms under lockdown were wrong.
This is how logic works and this is the corner you get backed into when you don't use it.
And they didn't use it.
