This is what's being taught in our universities. Professor singles out student in class to teach 'benefit of having white skin'
"Richards asks for the student’s thoughts on a slide which read, “To be less white is to be less oppressive, be less arrogant, be less certain, be less defensive, be less ignorant, be more humble, listen, believe, break with party, break with white solidarity.”
“I think, you know, it’s more or less just recognizing the advantages you have in life,” James, a student, responded. “Whatever that may be, and not thinking yourself superior because of that.”
Richards replied, “Awesome answer man.”
The professor then posed to Brian, the other student: “What White people would find that offensive?”
“Conservatives, I guess,” Brain responded.
Richards asked, “What would they find offensive about it?” Out of “canceled” concerns, Brian hesitated.
“White people have been like, ‘we’re oppressors, we’re arrogant, we’re really confident or certain, defensive — and dumb,” Richards replied. “White people are dumb. That’s a message: White people are dumb. That is a key message right there.”
Richards then asked Brian: “Who have you oppressed today?”
“I haven’t oppressed anyone today,” said Brian.
“You’re breathing. Have you left your house today?,” replied Richards.
“Yes,” Brian said.
“Okay, so you may have oppressed somebody,” Richards finished."

Ehh... White privilege definitely exists. I will give you a good personal example that would just cause a ruckus on the CGC Boards. Around five years ago I pulled into a Dairy Queen for ice cream on a hot summer day. Did my laps all day at the pool and I earned that sumbitch. As I was getting out of the car I got a phone call that I had to take so I got back in the car and turned it on while in the parking spot to run the AC while I was on the phone. As I am on the phone a police car stops at the back of the space so I cannot get out of the spot. I ended the phone call and got out of the car asking the police if there was a problem as they were getting out of the car. They told me that they were in the parking lot and observed me operating a vehicle while using a cell phone and asked for my license and registration. Seriously. I was not happy. Told them to go themselves, I was in a parking spot and I wasn't giving them and they should do something useful. Then told them I'm getting ice cream and then something to the effect of, if you want to make this a thing I will see you in Newsday or something. They did not follow me inside. They were not there when I got back after I sat inside to have my blizzard. (yes I will admit that I was nervous and said to myself, you done did it now.) Nothing happened to me. That does not happen here in my town on Long Island if you are black or hispanic.

I believe White Privilege exists and that it shouldn't but I also believe that you don't fight racism with more racism as Professor Richards is doing.
“To be less white is to be less oppressive, be less arrogant, be less certain, be less defensive, be less ignorant, be more humble, listen, believe, break with party, break with white solidarity.” This is a racist comment. The only reason he gets away with it is because it's directed at Whites.

Meh. let me know when it is important and claims the same privilege for interfacial marriages, and what such marriages and their offspring experience and don't go all ape with indignity yelling racism! racism!. like it has not existed since the beginning of civilization. I get it. People can be prejudiced. I get it. Prejudice is ignorant. I get it. Many people are ignorant. I get it. Racism causes social inequities. I get it. People can be and are assholes. It is 2021. The cost of higher education is multi-double/triple digit thousands. Watercooler discussion classes in higher education seems a waste of money. Just read Confucius. "He who conquers himself is the mightiest warrior". Works for me. Drop that class, and save 5K. That will be $100.00, please. Post here with address so I can send the Bill. The problem with people is people.

It's something unique to America (and possibly a couple of other Western countries) I don't think the rest of the world looks at racism the way the North Americans and maybe the UK do.
But yeah, CRT is not only totally effing racist (you can't combat racism with more racism) but it's also incomplete and short sighted.
What about white on white racism? It's everywhere.
I've experienced it.
CRT is silly in the sense that it won't accomplish what it sets out to do. In fact, it'll have the opposite effect.

I would have arrested you. That would not have worked out well for you both professionally nor personally. And now a little wiser, I would take that hit. I am confident that after another recent case of NCPD BS that it would have played out in my favor. My recent fav was the NCPD officer who faked getting hit not knowing that he was being filmed. Annnnnnd charges dropped. There are too many of them out here that still think that they are policing in an era where they can get away with whatever they want. Some of the guys I grew up with that recently retired from NYPD cannot stand Nassau County PD.

Good point. It definitely exists though. Very saddening to see here on Long Island.

Well!!! In that case..... YAWN YAWN.... So there! Ok, I laughed. Not in a mocking way. I legit chuckled. I am glad, because I meant it that way. As to the original aspect, having spent a year at Long Island Jewish, and this was 2005/6 or so, and may be too long ago to compare to your encounter, my observation was definitely the same. When you posted, the first thought I had was: were any of the LEOs Black, Hispanic, and/or Asian, and if so, how would a person react? Would the reaction be less indignant/defying/argumentative, or more? That is, in my world of thinking, a sad question to pose to myself, and is a disappointing commentary, in2021, that we would even personally contemplate such a question. The "stories", i.e. real life experiences of prejudice, that my betrothed and I experienced in the 70s (and still from time to time...especially this past year), were a thing of the past, I thought. No. Nope, not true. We move on. There are other things to ruminate on.

The "stories", i.e. real life experiences of prejudice, that my betrothed and I experienced in the 70s (and still from time to time...especially this past year), were a thing of the past, I thought. No. Nope, not true. We move on. There are other things to ruminate on. I think that what you allude to, is correct. To those that are reading this let me explain. Long Island is still very much socially segregated. I was born in Brooklyn, but raised here on Long Island. The community that I was raised in was 95% if not more white middle class. However, I did not go to High School here. I went to a public elementary school where there were no people of color to a Catholic High School which was attended by students from all towns on Long Island. The first time I ever sat next to a person of color was in High School. I went to college in the city and I work in the city so as an adult I can say that I am surrounded by diversity. The majority of my childhood friends are actually retired from or on the cusp of retirement from law enforcement or once were and now are FDNY. From what they tell me, there was a learning curve working in the city as a member of the NYPD. Personally from what I have seen, I have come to the conclusion of a few things: - Nassau and Suffolk PD who grew up out here and only work in predominantly white communities MAY not be the best equipped in their training in dealing with people who are not like them. They MAY treat them as outsiders which is the best way to describe it.
- Nassau and Suffolk PD who served in NYPD prior to their service in Nassau seem better equipped since they are used to diversity and seeing everyone from all walks of life. They don't see the outsider nature.
So I do not think that LEOs necessarily have to live in the areas that they police. I do believe that white officers can properly police and render the requirements of their position equally and fairly given their personal and professional upbringing. However, I do not believe that the majority of white police officers, born and raised in a white community, attending schools in a white community are best equipped emotionally nor professionally to fulfill the requirements of their position concerning people of color if the only people of color they encounter or will encounter are those they are policing.
A former friend, who I have distanced myself from only saw African Americans as criminals. He fit the profile of what I mentioned above, where he has only been surrounded by white people all his life and the only African Americans he every encountered were those he arrested. He had nothing other than "criminal" to associate African Americans with which could have been the problem. This meant that every African American he sees is a criminal to him. When he had to arrest white people though, he already has a basis where it is established in his mind that there are white criminals who he encounters at work and there are white people who he grew up around that were obviously not.
A friend who had a similar upbringing as I did from this town went to another Catholic HS where he too had more of a diverse population in his school during these formative years. He had what I consider a more pragmatic and balanced view of all people in this world who he was charged to police. The word racist or biased policing would not even be considered to be attached to this individual.
So, I do believe that policing has a lot to do with personal upbringing and why I also believe that diversity or exposure to it is a good thing all around.
