I didn't know Jughead could open his eyes. Yeah, I prefer his eyes closed and don't think Jughead should be this expressive(facially). Eyes closed with a blunted affect better shows his laid back and non-conformist approach to life, imo.

A while back someone had a thread over yonder, what's your favourite comic character and right away I thought Jughead.Linus would be a close second, tie.I try to be like them.

I like Linus, too, but I'm not as bright as he seems to be. I worry about his continued attachment to a comfort object(blanket) that an emotionally stable youngster would have abandoned as they develop healthier coping mechanisms. His fanciful belief regarding the existence of "the Great Pumpkin" is also somewhat disturbing, but at least demonstrates his creativity and willingness to stay true to himself despite being ridiculed by the majority. I'm thinking Linus has some issues relating to being a middle child. Being stuck between a crabby fussbudget like Lucy, and the attention seeking mimicry of Rerun is certainly no bed of roses for the kid to lie on.

Give yourself more credit citysteve-we've been internet chums for nearly a decade now,and I think you're one of the brighter bulbs.I see the Great Pumpkin as a metaphor for a higher power, representing the power of faith-that wasn't instilled in me growing up,and I've yet to find much of it.The blanky is see as representing material goods, something we don't need but we covet and protect occasionally letting our guard down and another(Snoopy)is always coveting and trying to take for their own.It/they sooth us in times of need.It could also be said it represents childhood innocence,memories-something you don't want to lose, and while enriching the lives of those that have,it can also hold them back. For years I had a book in my mean to read pile-grows quicker every week, more so with time on internet-the Parables of Peanuts, and after picking it up many times I just this week, funnily enough, decided to donate it to the local free library.I don't need someone elses ideas, like Snoopy is a Christ symbol,to muddy my love for likely my all time favourite strip.Streetcar Named Desire is the only written work I think I learned to enjoy more with having to pick apart and analyze, doing so to Findleys the Wars was almost ruined for me because of classes over picking it,and I believe we've talked about how much I like and admire that mans work. I know, blah blah blah blah

When I talked to Evan Dorkin about the sketch he did for me I said he could draw whatever he wanted but my only request was that they had squinty/shut eyes.

I know, blah blah blah blah Thank you -- you're too kind. I wasn't really fishing for a compliment, just that I wouldn't try to be him. I understand the idea of the Great Pumpkin being a metaphor for faith, but I'm generally turned off by ecumenical dialogue or folks advocating theism which is why I likely don't think of G.P. in that fashion. I'm totally on board with your take on the blanket, but instinct tells me Linus should have aged out of that behavior. While the blanket is quietly accepted within his peer group, there have been instances where it's used as a tool to manipulate Linus, which indicates (to me) his unhealthy emotional reliance on an object. To the other point, I'm really not one to pick apart or scrutinize comics or cartoons, but for Peanuts and Archie I've always had a notion that there's more than meets the eye than what's seen in the panels. There's a sort of subtext that exists even within the fluid continuity of the Archie world, with character attributes, places, or time rebooting repeatedly in order to fit the a particular story or gag. I don't pay much attention to things like Matt Murdock's being conflicted between his Catholicism and his actions as Daredevil, or the relationship dynamic among the Fantastic Four to any great extent. I do enjoy reading other's thoughts and opinions about comics, though. Don't worry about the blah, blah, blah. It's interesting to me to hear other perspectives on pretty much anything.
