Ah, see, I rarely go to the WaterCooler. Sucks that you have to sign in to read it.
He only stayed around a few days after Slym started that thread. Yeah, the WC isn’t fun for me like it used to be. I don’t contribute anything, so I get that I’m not doing my part to improve it, but I’m not interested in the arguing between the same dozen people or adding to another infinite YouTube music thread. Maybe it’s suffered since the coinees next door moved away and staples like Wooden Jefferson, Buffyfan, or Bronzilla don’t come around any more. Forbush Man, Marvel Girl... there’s a long list if I think about it.

Did anyone (18 years ago) foresee the changes to the hobby that third party grading would bring about? It’s a different world. I’m not thinking about prices per se, but how people collect. The odd sort of manufactured rarity that draws interest and people playing hot potato with whatever the flavor of the month book is. The overwhelming importance art takes over stories in the Big 2’s marketing nowadays... If I were a kid all over again I don’t think I’d gravitate towards comics as a hobby or interest.
Seller had some books he knew had fake signatures on them (Lee & Ditko).
Seller ended up in a financial situation where he needed money
Seller tried to sell known fakes on the board as legit. Including some story around the provenance of the signatures.
Seller got called out for the books (or maybe the provenance) being fake.
Seller then pulled sales thread and tried to wipe out as much evidence as possible.
Community smells something fishy Seller goes for big swing a asks for everything around him and his ID and his comic book existence to be deleted as a show of repentance for selling apparently fake autographs
Community smells something even fishier
Seller confesses, dumps a sob story (real or fake unknown) and admits he was selling comics he knew had fake signatures.
Community starts digging in on his reasons for wanting all evidence of the books and the transgression to be wiped out.
Seller posts apparently now defaced copies of the comic with the fake signatures scribbled out to show that they will not be offered elsewhere or attempted to be passed off as authentic elsewhere.
...did I get it?
This proves signatures are evil...stay away from them.
Ditch Fahrenheit: There's one more of his threads left...I bumped it.

Buzzetta: I'm updating it now.

Buzzetta: I like my private little game that has been long since dissolved. I would tally up and keep tabs on suspensions and vacations when they used to publicly announce them. McKnowitall had a few records going with frequency and shortest time between strikes

Buzzetta: I would like to think that the mods are kind of on board with this as they did not poof the thread but locked it. In the last few years, threads have been poofed rather than locked to discourage this tally.

Ditch Fahrenheit: They were definitely on board 5 years ago. In fact, I suspect they were actively manipulating the scoring.

Ditch Fahrenheit: Plus, it's just better forum management to lock a thread rather than poof it. That way everyone has access to the information in the thread afterwards.

Buzzetta: There were those that chose to disrupt for the sake of getting points whenever they saw a thread was on its way out. However, the game did part of the mods job for them. It let them keep track of who and how many times someone was involved in nonsense.
