Your understanding is correct. If people want to be disappointed about the decision, it should be directed at the dissent being agreed by the the 3 SCOTUS members collectively and penned by only one(very unusual), and not based in law, but...as you used the word....circumvention of a failed application based on emotion. SCOTUS IS THERE TO INTERPRET LAW, NOT INSTITUTE LAW. Like it or hate it, legislation from the bench is disrespectful to The People, and places SCOTUS in a status of an arm of Congress and/or the Executive Branch, and that will not be supportive to the success of a Federal Republic.

I literally had a CGC board member argue with me (on my FB page) that because women would suffer harm, they should keep Roe vs Wade regardless of whether it was done properly or not. I argued that whether you're pro or against abortion, you can't just pick and choose how the law works or which laws to follow. You have to follow the legal procedure consistently for all laws. They still argued against me, basically saying 'screw it' they should just keep it. That's the logic (or lack thereof) we're dealing with. I never followed politics much before the pandemic. Were people always this or is this Ideocratic breakdown in logic a relatively new development?

Were people always this or is this Ideocratic breakdown in logic a relatively new development? I don't know who the individual is, but that is the silliest position that can be presented concerning abortion. It does not surprise me. Whenever someone uses such illogical logic, I ask what their position would be if their mother decided to abort them? That is the same illogical logic response, but the stumbling/bumbling that erupts...usually some description along the lines of dear old mom would never do that....entirely misses the point. There has, in my lifetime, always been some degree of an underlying current of ideocracy, most notable in the early 60s to mid 70s, and violence and mayhem and ideology of division was certainly present. Loss of respect for the rule of law was foremost and openly acted upon. What is different to me, now, is an intensity of directed anger with no self restraint of physical harm to others or property harm/destruction in support of the ideology, and no moral compass, whatever the cause espoused at the moment is. Yes, drugs, unequal social positions, lack of education, etc., but, I will pin it on a different factor, which started to appear 2009 or so, and that is the advent of empowering people to expect free stuff from the government, the government agreeing by incentivizing people with free stuff...and I am not waffling to state it is the healthcare movement that powered the train... and and expectation of change by using violence and condemnation of anybody and everybody. And here we are.

Just heard Biden talking about it. He's arguing it like the board member I was arguing with. Rather than try to explain why the decision was made and stand behind the SCOTUS, or show a way forward he opposed it. Wow. And the media is focusing on the outcome and not the legality of the decision. I'm watching on Canadian TV and they are stating 'that this could affect same sex marriage' as though the two are connected. Nothing could be further from the truth. The overturning of RvW is about the legality of making a state law federal constitutional law, not whether abortion should be legal or not. What a horrible mis-representation of what's actually happening.

It may be more appropriate to describe as SCOTUS has returned the responsibility to the States. After all, it was never actually settled as implied and/or persons may interpret, based on the font size and color of the Headlines (which is posturing and media divisiveness at its finest), since it was always a limbo issue and had never been settled, thus there was nothing to overturn. RBG knew this, and always opined that the States have valid authority and she worried that the Sates would be legally empowered with the authority by SCOTUS some day. That's a good summary.

What is most hypocritical is the conflict in logic between those who are pro personal autonomy over women's right's to have an abortion while the exact same people were wholheartedly AGAINST personal autonomy when it came to mandating vaccines. The same people who argued AGAINST freedom of choice just a month ago are arguing FOR freedom of choice now. People think that being against vaccine mandates was an anti-vaxx stance. It just shows how shallow and ignorant the people arguing FOR mandates were. It was nothing of the sort. It was a philosophical stance that was logically sound and stood on the side of freedom of choice. Wait? My freedom ends where your freedom begins? Using that logic, the woman's freedom ends where the child's freedom begins. Checkmate. Welcome to clown world, where 2 + 2 = 5

I'm a conservative but believe women should have the choice whether or not to carry a child. especially if it was a rape and she's doubly victimized by having to carry her rapist's child. However I cannot fault the logic of the supreme court-rights not granted in the constitution go to the states. Right to privacy is decided by case law-which can change-which has happened.
states have all powers not granted to the federal government by the Constitution.

Meh. As long as the new one has a similar cool head of hair, I'm good.

Many Liberal based governments are crumbling around the world as the world opens up from the pandemic. The pendulum is swinging back hard. There is a 'rebound' happening around the world after all of the strict, authoritarian lockdown and mandate measures that were forced into place by Liberal based governments as well as the sweeping measures being forced on society to curb climate change. It's happening in Canada, it's happening in the US, it's happening in the UK, it's happening in Australia and it's happening in other parts of Europe (like the Dutch farmer protests) and the Middle East (like Israel). They pushed people too far and now people are pushing back.

Now that the Amber Heard trial is over and everyone needs a new distraction, and while everyone is hooked watching the Jan 6th Capitol hearings this little thing seems to have slipped under the radar back in the Spring of 2020. I came across it while discussing the Jan 6th hearings with some other comic people. Remember when Democrats accused Trump of colluding with the Russians and stealing the election in 2016? The FBI investigated and found no evidence of collusion but they did conclude that Russia DID INDEED influence the election. How did Russia influence the election? They did it through Cyber attacks and misinformation campaigns. Here is an FBI document: www.fbi.gov/wanted/cyber/russian-interference-in-2016-u-s-elections

How is this relevant? Easy. In March of 2020, at the start of the pandemic a documentary came out about how vulnerable the US election system is to cyber attacks. These are reviews of the documentary by Time (Time is a good publication, isn't it? ) This Documentary Will Show You Just How Fragile Our Democracy Really Isand the LA Times (LA Times is a good publication, isn't it? ) Review: If coronavirus doesn’t end us, electronic voting just might You have to ask why everyone is so interested in the Jan 6th hearings but not actually interested in whether elections can be manipulated or not when even the FBI has stated that THEY CAN BE. Or why nobody has really heard of this well made documentary. Maybe it's because just a few months earlier, Nicolas Cage came out with a feature movie by the same name of Kill Chain. What a co-incidence. In any case, I'm looking forward to watching this. Anybody else?
