What a cool photo! I bet those comics smelled good, too. Cigar and pipe smoke. My dad didn't smoke, but he had a lot of stuff in the garage organized by cigar boxes. I wish I had a stack of them. They were super-sturdy and never seemed to wear out.

In the drugstore photo I think that's a Superman #14 and Pep #24 on the racks. (images from MCS)

I spent WAY too much time on this...but it was fun. I cropped, enlarged, and adjusted the contrast of the original photo. I think I've positively identified almost all of them. Is that a girlie mag bottom left?! Taking a quick glance it looks like it could be, but looking closer you'll see her hands are clasped as if in prayer. I've dug through some images and lists of early 40's magazines and didn't come up with any leads. If it's the title that's written across the top, it appears as maybe it's two words, both starting with the same letter and ending in "g" or "y". Wish I could confirm the first letter. Looks like "a" to me.

I'm going to look through a list of titles on a vintage magazine site over the next few days and see if anything comes up. Edit: p.s. - I wish "normal" things like cars, sports, bikini babes, etc. captured my interest the way this sort of silliness over an 80+ year old magazine does.
